Adopt Artie a Black American Staffordshire Terrier dog in St.

Location:
Saint Peters, MO
Description:

Artemis (Artie)Artie is a sweet old man (approximately 12 years old) who was rescued from being euthanized at an Oklahoma City animal control. He loves being wrapped up in blankets like a burrito, laying on the porch in the sunshine, helping his humans in thegarage and garden, snuggles, cats (maybe too much), car rides and tiny dog toys. He is housebroken and has no issues with accidents (he will come get you when he needs topotty!). Artie does not do well on a leash as he's never had to use one, but he sticks very close to the house and does not wander.Artie has arthritis in his lower back and hips, which makes him pretty clumsy -especially on the stairs. He needs extra help getting onto the couch and in/out of cars.He requires glucosamine twice a day to help with this. He would do well with someone who is able to lift him up and down (he's a chunky boy - start lifting weightsnow!). He takes pain medication twice a day to help manage his arthritis.Artie has an eye condition that requires twice daily eyedrops. His eyesight is 2.5 outof 5 stars at best, but that doesn't stop him from looking at you with heart eyes. He isalso prone to ear infections.Artie has a thyroid condition and requires thyroid medication twice a day. The good news is that he takes his pills with no problems - as long as you hide them in peanutbutter. Peanut butter is his favorite.Artie does well with cats, small dogs, and big dogs who are chill. He would not besuited for a home with children or rambunctious dogs of any size. Artie has a lot of stranger danger and needs special care when there are visitors in hishome. His foster moms are still working with him (and a trainer) on feeling safe when new people come around. He has bitten once before when he didn't feel safe, but thiswas when he first came to his foster moms from Oklahoma and hadn't worked with a trainer yet. With a lot of reassuring and learning coping skills for his anxiety, therehave been no other bites. He is the worst dog ever and you definitely don't want him, because his foster moms want to snuggle him forever ;)
