Assistant Attorney General Labor Section - St. Louis The Missouri Attorney General's Office is committed to providing the highest quality legal representation to the six million Missourians who call our State home. We are looking for attorneys with excellent credentials interested in our Labor Section defending the State in workers' compensation claims. The Labor Section provides general counsel and litigation services in Missouri Workers' Compensation claims for the Missouri State Treasurer in his capacity as custodian of the Second Injury Fund (Fund) and for the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations in its role administering the Fund. The Labor Division similarly provides general counsel and litigation services for the Missouri's Office of Administration, Central Accident Reporting Office (CARO) in defending workers' compensation claims filed against a multitude of state agencies by its employees. The Labor Division also prosecutes cases involving fraud and noncompliance with the Missouri Workers' Compensation Act, as referred by the Fraud and Noncompliance Unit of the Division of Workers' Compensation, filing charges in 189 criminal cases and obtaining 54 guilty pleas in 2022. Preferred experience/skills: Hearing and deposition experience Handling pre-filing investigation, discovery, motion practice, and appeals Drafting documents and correspondence Resolving claims by settlement State court familiarity Commitment to public service Excellent legal writing/ oral advocacy Opportunities Offered: Courtroom and trial experience Handling litigation from case initiation through appeal Administrative practices including workers' compensation and appearances before state agencies Defense of state agencies Motion and appellate practice Review of investigations The AGO Advantage: More experience and opportunities than a private law office Immediately work on cases that affect policy and have a statewide impact Attorneys are responsible for their own case load Mentoring and guidance from experienced attorneys and colleagues Regular interactions with clients, including state agency heads and general counsels. Eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness Annual conference and trainings, bar licensing fees, and parking provided. The office may approve additional training if needed. Excellent health insurance plans available at very reasonable monthly premiums and state retirement pension and deferred compensation. Candidates should be licensed to practice law in Missouri or eligible for a temporary license (Rule 8.06). Candidates with the most relevant experience and education will be considered for an interview.
