This role will be based in Waltham, MA (Boston BioHub) within AstraZeneca's innovative laboratories where you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicines. Accountabilities: In this role, you will be a scientific leader in the Bioscience, Immunology team focusing on developing therapeutics for treatment of Rheumatological and Gastrointestinal Diseases. You will lead programs from target identification through preclinical development and will be responsible for the delivery of preclinical and translational data in support of key portfolio program milestones. You will take an active role in growing and developing team members and recruitment of new talents. Essential Skills/Experience: Ph.D. in immunology or a relevant research area, with 5+ years of industry experience in a relevant field, preferentially in drug discovery and development for autoimmune disease and/or inflammatory disease. Demonstrated leadership in driving drug discovery projects in immunology through preclinical milestones. Self-motivated and highly organized with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team to perform high-quality research. Solid understanding of T cell and/or Treg biology and hands-on experience are required; experience with cell therapy and other immune cell types is strongly preferred. Expertise in primary human cell culture, multi-color flow cytometry, multiplex cytokine detection, functional immune cell assays (proliferation, cytotoxicity, chemotaxis) and assay development is essential. Experience working with primary human tissue samples, and in vivo models of autoimmunity and inflammation is preferred. Strong hands-on skills in molecular biology are a plus. Experience with multiple drug modalities, including large molecule, small molecule or cell therapies is a plus. Experience in managing Ph.D. and/or non-Ph.D. level scientists is a plus. Demonstrated ability to identify and leverage internal and external resources to advance drug discovery efforts. Ability to work in a dynamic environment, record protocols and experiments detailed and in a timely manner and maintain an excellent laboratory notebook. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to critically analyze datasets are essential.
