Our success will be built on amazing colleagues, working together. Job Overview The Director, Data Scientist joins a best-in-class data science CoE team in a fast-changing retail environment. Leading a team of Data Scientists, they design, develop, and implement advanced data science models and machine learning solutions and applications for priority business use cases across the enterprise, such as online experience, marketing, merchandising, supply chain, finance, and store operations. Applying cutting-edge data science techniques to large amounts of data, they drive actionable insights and develop intelligent and scalable AI solutions. This role reports to the VP Enterprise Data Science and ML Engineering. What You Will Do Execute advanced analytics using a scalable and reusable codebase and models to address business problems effectively. Collaborate closely with Business Unit counterparts to formulate and test hypotheses that align with priority use cases. Ensure compliance with analytics standards, including tailoring methodologies to specific use case needs such as ML, AI, and descriptive analytics. Define batch or real-time streaming data requirements, assess data quality, and manipulate data within a "Big Data" environment. Determine internal and external data requirements, assess quality measures, and suitability for use. Develop predictive models to identify opportunities for additional support to Business Units. Create impactful visualizations to communicate findings derived from data. Engage with Data and Solution Architecture teams as necessary to implement data pipelines and tools for efficient analytics execution. Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to establish enterprise-wide data assets facilitating the delivery of new use cases and machine learning model training. Work with Tech teams during the scale-up and roll-out of analytics applications. Manage multiple projects concurrently, leveraging various analytical skill sets where applicable. Culture: Provide technical guidance and oversight to lead Data scientists within the Enterprise Data & Analytics organization, in partnership with the Sr. Director. Foster a community to promote a data and analytics culture, encouraging data-driven thinking and discussions across priority analytics use cases. Exemplify a data-driven culture at Macy's. Support business users in leveraging insights for high-value impact. Stay updated on methods used in the data science community. Promote awareness, knowledge, and conviction around data-driven practices and behaviors, enhancing the digital IQ of Business Units. Act agilely in identifying data issues and taking corrective action. Key Performance Indicators: Development and deployment of algorithms and methodologies for analytics use cases. Consistent application of coding and methodology best practices. Metrics measuring the effectiveness of models in achieving business goals. High-performing team with successful talent acquisition, development, and retention. Skills You Will Need Fluency in Data Science: Proficiency in complex algorithms and analytics methodologies across various platforms and programming languages, particularly on Google Cloud Platform. Collaborative Analytics: Experience collaborating with business functions to develop and deliver data-driven solutions that support decision-making processes. Analytical Expertise: Understanding of core analytical and statistical methods such as regression, segmentation/clustering, predictive modeling, time-series analysis, and machine learning techniques. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of interpreting both business and technical documents effectively. Practice of open and continuous communication, valuing transparency, and presenting information clearly and concisely. Team Leadership: Experience in leading teams, managing performance, and coaching and developing talent to achieve organizational goals. Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functional lines and engage with stakeholders at various levels. Creative and Strategic Thinking: Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically to solve complex problems and drive innovation. MS Office Proficiency: Knowledge of MS Office computer programs is required for effective data analysis and communication. PhD degree preferred. 8+ years of work experience, and at least 5 years of demonstrable experience in data science within retail organizations. Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision. Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
