Where you fit in The Digital Systems Specialist ensures reliability and proper application of the DCS/PLC systems platform and associated hardware in the entire plant while promoting the use of new technology and best practices. Provide technical support to operations, assist Maintenance in diagnosing equipment problems, develop repair plans, deliver QA of repairs, and monitor equipment for obsolescence. Accountabilities include: Act as Focal Point for technical assistance to all departments at the site for issues relating to Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programable Logic Controller (PLC) system platforms and associated hardware residing on the L3 and L2 networksProvide proactive technical support to Operations, Control Systems Engineers (CSEs), Control Systems Inspectors (CSIs) and Instrument Engineers for diagnosing DCS equipment problems, developing repair plans, and executing repairTake a lead role in troubleshooting DCS and PLC system problemLeverage tools, software, and test equipment to make adjustment to the computing systems Deliver routine support including problem solving of recurring problems. Maintain and execute PMs on the computing systemsSupport operations to install, maintain, and replace console DCS/PLC/SIS/APC hardware and peripheralPerform Weekly backups of EPA Flare Camera DVRs. Provide technical support for computers, Networks and CamerasEnsure PCN Security compliance to DSM-5000001-ST-01 Shell standardResponsibilities include: Run and MaintainProvide technical support for diagnosing process control computing equipment, DCS and PLC systems hardware and software problems and develop repair plans Respond to plant upsets and assist in repairs, investigations, and corrective actionsSupport Custody Transfer Meter (CTM) network and data retrieval of financial reportsMaintain a close relationship with Production Teams and Maintenance to understand threatsDevelop work scope for computing system repairs while ensuring right, effective scopeDevelops scope for the Turnaround Work LetterImplement plant changes and small projectsProvide input to the Instrument Specialist, Engineers/Inspectors, and Maintenance (Instrument & Electrical) I&E to facilitate planning of non-routine workReliabilityEnsure that hardware & software failures receive the proper level of failure analysis and causes are documentedAudit the operation of the DCS/PLC hardware and software in the plant to ensure compliance to standardsFacilitate causal learning investigations to solve problems Escalate system problems and concerns with Instrument specialist, Engineer/Inspectors and assist in the resolutionEnsure emergency recovery plans including data backup are in placeTechnical AssuranceProvide technical assurance for the DCS/PLC hardware and softwareCommunicate maintenance requirements to Ops and ensure PMs are completed per requirementsMaintain and update Digital Systems documentation associated with process computers, DCS, tank gauging systems and PLCWork with Production/Maintenance to identify needs for new applications and to identify potential for applications and hardware that can be removedWork with the Project CSE, Instrument Inspector, Maintenance Coordinator, and contractors on installation, commissioning & start-up of new equipmentWork with CSE and APC/RTO Engineer on integrating instrumentation with complex loops or other control/information systemsReview spare parts to ensure the correct part and number are stocked in the warehouse or with the material suppliers Review system documentation to ensure it is maintained and updatedReview hardware and software system revisions and maintenance activities for compliance with Shell Design Engineering Practices and other standards, Instrumentation &Process Controls and location strategiesDevelop procedures for special maintenance & testing workIdentify technical issues, recurring problems, and work with Production Team to resolve. What we need from you Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerAt least 5 years of Instrument experience with preference for relevant experience within large petrochemical facilitiesBachelor's degree in engineering preferredCisco Certificate is a plusBackground in DCS (Honeywell & DeltaV) and PLC (Allen Bradley , GEs, and Modicons PLC) systems maintenance, high-level computing hardware and softwareKnowledge of troubleshooting techniques and maintenance practicesProgramming Languages: Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, Basic, Visual Basic, C++, and HMI configurationsCommunications Protocols: Serial Modbus, TCP/IP Modbus, OPC DA, OPC UA, Allen Bradley DH+, RIO, Device Net, ControlNet, Ethernet IPComputer skills - basic (word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, etc.) and troubleshootingSkilled in analog / digital controlsGood communication skills and understands when to escalate for assistanceInterpersonal skills and use of Enterprise First Behaviors (Leadership, Accountability, Teamwork)Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with limited guidance. Understanding of basic process control or willingness to learnAbility to estimate, design, purchase, install and start-up new control and computing hardware & softwareGeneral troubleshooting skills - An understanding of the overall strategies developed for process instrumentation & control and information systemsKnowledge of orders, policies and procedures, regulations, codes, and Management Systems/Processes or willingness to learnAbility to perform Weekly backups of EPA Flare Camera DVRs, including manage backup solution Provide technical support for computers, Networks and CamerasThe base salary range for this position is $101,000- $151,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
