JOB TITLE: Fire Extinguisher Technician SUMMARY: The Fire Extinguisher Technician inspects and services portable fire extinguishers for customers. The technician will drive to customer sites to perform service on the extinguishers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Test, inspect and service portable fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment and monitoring devices in accordance with NFPA, local and state codes Inspect, service and repair emergency exit lighting systems at customer locations Complete inspection reports online Hydro-test high pressure cylinders as needed Dismantle extinguishers and examine mechanical parts, extinguishing agents and expelling means; replace worn or damaged parts Clean extinguishers and recharge them with approved materials Performs other related duties as assigned by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, licenses and registrations required: MA Certificate of Competency 46 – license for portable fire extinguishers Knowledge of NFPA codes a plus Hydrostatic certificate preferred Must maintain a valid drivers license and clean driving record OSHA 10 card COMPETENCIES: Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; Arrives at meetings and appointments on time. Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources; Sets goals and objectives; Organizes or schedules other people and their tasks; Develops realistic action plans. Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality. Quantity - Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly. Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently required to stand Frequently required to walk Occasionally required to sit Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl Frequently required to talk or hear Occasionally exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather) Occasionally work in high, precarious places While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate The employee must continually lift and/or move 10-20 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job.
