A Brief Overview The primary responsibility for this position will include respiratory fit testing for enterprise staff to ensure compliance with 29CFR 1910.134. This work activity will require occasional, planned off-shift time commitments. This position may also be assigned a variety of other environmental health and safety (EHS) related duties that will assist the EHS team in maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. What you will do Fit Testing: monitors audience, supplies, documentation and communicates with staff in need of annual fit-testing. Performs fit testing and training on respiratory protection in various locations in hospitals as assigned by the Industrial Hygiene Programs Manager. Environment of Care (EOC): participates in regular EOC rounding activities, completing checklists, providing education and feedback and escalating safety concerns. Hazardous and Pharmaceutical Waste: supports ad-hoc waste management needs from customers (drop off/pickup). Industrial Hygiene: as needed, conducts air monitoring, water intrusion assessments, office ergonomic evaluations, topical education and feedback and hazard communication audits. Fire and Life Safety: as needed, conducts life safety audits, provides education and feedback and participates in fire drills to assess staff competency. Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Required Experience Qualifications At least six (6) months professional environment work experience, may include internship Preferred Skills and Abilities Strong written and verbal communications skills Medically cleared to wear Level B personal protective equipment Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 24 hours training by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or within 180 days of placement into position Intermediate knowledge of safety guidelines / regulations including from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Basic proficiency with personal protective equipment Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) Strong critical thinking / problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills Strong time management skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to be on-call to trouble shoot and resolve problems Licenses and Certifications Hazardous Waste Ops & ER 24 or 40 hour - Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) - upon hire - Preferred To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
