CITY OF FREEPORT Job Description Sewer Maintenance Technician 1 Non-Exempt ========== General description of duties Performs technical and advanced manual duties in the Sewer Department. Repair and maintenance of wastewater system equipment and infrastructure. Supervised by Sewer Lead Plant Operator. This is an on-call position. Employee is required to be on-call for after hours, weekend, and holidays. Compensation will be based on past experience and certifications. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Job Functions: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein when deemed necessary. This job description is subject to amendment and modification by Council at any time. Installation and maintenance of sewer collection system with a focus on lift stations and grinder stations Troubleshoot, repair, or clear sewage blockages and leaks Maintenance and repair of sewer/wastewater treatment plant equipment and machinery Maintenance and repair of buildings, tanks, and piping Lawn and ground maintenance to include mowing and landscaping Repair and maintenance of small tools and equipment Performs other duties as required Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License (in good standing) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General geographical knowledge of the City, or ability to become learn within a specified period of time. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as tractor, backhoe, trencher Ability to operate various power tools, light trucks and power-driven equipment Ability to communicate verbally in in writing Ability to operate light trucks and safely tow heavy equipment Knowledge of safety protocol when working with tools, equipment, and machinery. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Works in inclement weather Works with poor lighting and noisy conditions Works around odors, with fumes and gasses and in dusty conditions Works with chemicals, solvents, grease and oils Works with electricity Works on slippery and uneven surfaces Works in or with moving objects Work around odors Works at heights up to 16 feet Heavy lifting and carrying (over 45 pounds) Reaching above shoulders Use of fingers and both hands Good vision and depth perception required Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors Good hearing required Straight pulling and pulling hand over hand required Ability to periodically walk, sit, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and balance required Ability to smell required Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: Less than 1 year Bonus/Commission: No
