Animal Hospital of Soquel is looking for a part-time Kennel Attendant to join our lodging department! Animal Hospital of Soquel is located in Santa Cruz, CA. We are a state-of-the-art, AAHA accredited, small animal veterinary practice, which also offers premium lodging and daycare services. We are staffed and equipped to handle emergencies, urgent medical care, surgery, preventative care, comprehensive diagnostics, and superior dental care. We foster a calm, healing environment for both animals and people at the hospital. We are proud to support local nonprofits and animal care organizations by offering medical care and services to animals in need. Position Overview: As a Kennel Attendant, you will play an important role in the day-to-day operations with Animal Hospital of Soquel - this position will be focused in our lodging department. By adding value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and extraordinary service, the Kennel Attendant will oversee animal behavior and provide husbandry care to the patients of our lodging services. We are looking for a friendly, team-oriented person, with an exceptional eye for detail. Duties and Responsibilities: Observe and report daily animal behavior, appearance, and activity for signs of illness or discomfort to the attending Veterinarian or Technician Safely and effectively handle and restrain animals to complete treatment tasks Walk boarded dogs throughout the day to provide exercise and time for urine and bowel elimination Provide timely meals to all hospitalized and/or boarding patients while ensuring correct dietary needs to each patient Administer medications as authorized by the Veterinarians or Technicians Ensure that cages and animals are properly identified and that personal property (toys, blankets, leashes) are stored and labeled in respectable areas Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, and runs as often as is necessary to ensure cleanliness and sanitation Perform general cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizations in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of diseases Complete upkeep tasks like cleaning food and water bowls, and maintaining laundry Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients on our services, procedures, and products Qualifications and Skills: Entry-level position High School Diploma/GED Confidence with animal behavior and proper animal restraint methods is a plus Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency Take initiative on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments Verbal and written communication skills Attention to detail Organizational skills Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors Available Schedule: Part-time, rotating weekends as needed, opening shifts start at 6:30am and closing shifts start at 11:30am We are open: Monday-Saturday 8am-7pm Benefits We Offer: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience ($16.00 - $18.50 per hour) Health, dental, and vision insurance 401k + company match Paid time off Continuing education opportunities Professional development support Mental health assistance Employee discounts on veterinary services Scrub allowance Employee Referral Program Collaborative and compassionate work environment!
