The Environmental Scientist provides support to the Environmental Practice working in a team orientated organization with other environmental professionals. We are looking for a self-starting, team-oriented individual to provide support to our Environmental Practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with field efforts, including ecological and environmental assessments, wetland delineations, wildlife assessments, construction compliance, permitting support, and other related tasks. This position requires routine overnight travel and our office is based in Lake Mary, Florida. In addition, your role will be to: Job responsibilities: Field preparation through the review, documentation, and interpretation of internal and external resources. Evaluating, selecting, and then applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for projects, e.g., wetland delineation, soil sampling, water sampling, and other. Documentation of field conditions via site assessments, ecological evaluations, habitat assessments, sampling, data collection and initial data analyses. Participates in project reviews and task meetings. Prepares portions of project documents. Assists with preparation and research of required information. Consults with professionals in various fields to identify and/or evaluate environmental issues, problems, and new or revised regulations. Work within cooperative teams to deliver on complex issues. Communicate environmental data and objectives with internal and external groups. The associate is frequently required to work outdoors for prolonged periods of time under a variety of weather conditions (up to 10 hours). Specific physical abilities required include walking on un-level grounds in varied topographies and sometimes challenging environments such as wetlands, lakes, rivers, forests, and deserts. The employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours). Associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop. The associate must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Environment (biology, forestry, environmental sciences, etc.) or equivalent Minimum 1-year professional experience in Environmental Sciences or Services 1-year professional experience in electric transmission or linear infrastructure construction an asset Ability to collect accurate data in the field and produce professional reports in the office Working knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc. Ability to interface successfully with multiple departments, external vendors and/or customers Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word and Excel required) Working knowledge of ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online suites, especially Field Maps and Survey123 Valid Driver's License with the ability to drive a company vehicle and an acceptable motor vehicle record Qualified Erosion and Sedimentation Inspector preferred Environmental permitting experience with a focus on Water Management Districts, USACE, and FDEP waters and wetland permitting and T&E issues (USFWS and FWC) desired FWC Gopher Tortoise Authorized Agent preferred Experience with wetland delineations, plant ID, hydric soils and hydrology At Canacre, our benefits program is one of the ways in which we reinforce the value we place on employees and the role they play in helping us achieve our goals.
