Description:
The Coding Specialist is responsible for coding medical records. Responsibilities : Collect statistical data by entering information into computer. Abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents and assigns appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT codes to patient records. Educate clinic staff and providers on billing policies and procedures Review patient financial charts and correct errors as necessary. Verify coding and completion of documentation. Submit patient claims Monitor and adjust patient accounts. Perform timely follow-up of billed accounts. Obtain additional required billing information as needed Requirements : Minimum H.S. Diploma required Graduate of Health Information Management program with successful completion of the registration exam or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in inpatient and outpatient coding and/or must complete and pass a coding test before hire, preferred. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) or r equires RHIA, RHIT, CCS and/or CPS certification. within one year of employment.
