Summary The University of Michigan Health Rogel Cancer Center is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic content writer for a temporary position to help us tell the story of one of the country's premiere cancer research and care institutions as we move to a new web platform.The Rogel Cancer Center is one of 56 National Cancer Center-designated comprehensive cancer centers across the country, with more than 40 years of consecutive funding. The designation reflects Rogel's excellence in basic, clinical, and prevention and control research, as well as education and outreach programs and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.The writer will contribute to a versatile team that produces a variety of external- and internal-facing communications. The person in this role will focus on writing and updating content to represent the Rogel Cancer Center?s research and training initiatives and all cancer-related clinical care efforts on Michigan Medicine's new overarching website, michiganmedicine.org. The research and education components of this website have launched. Work on the patient care section is currently moving forward with expected launch in 2024. In addition, the Rogel Cancer Center will migrate its center site to this platform in 2024.In addition to the website, the writer will develop and adapt content to tell the stories of our cancer center through channels including blog, podcasts and social media.Successful candidates will have excellent writing samples, excellent verbal communication skills, adaptability, quick thinking, enthusiasm, creativity and strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment and can juggle multiple projects at once Responsibilities* Develop, research, and write content for the web and other platforms about cancer research, clinical care, and patients. Content must be targeted to specific audiences, including referring physicians, patients, community members/general public, faculty and staff, peer scientists and others. Work closely with web project manager to assess content needs, updating and improving existing content as needed. Conduct interviews and work directly with Rogel faculty and staff to create and review content. Identify opportunities for additional storytelling on multiple communication channels, including podcasts, blog, livestreams, and social media. Contribute stories to the Michigan Medicine Health Lab blog, https://www.michiganmedicine.org/health-lab , Rogel?s award-winning Thrive magazine, and multiple Rogel and Michigan Medicine social media accounts. Contribute to efforts around establishing appropriate and consistent style as well as continuous project and process improvements. The Rogel Communications team uses Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox and Trello for organization and communication. Desired Qualifications* Paid work experience in editing, writing, content creation, digital strategy and/or social media is required. Previous experience in health or science writing with demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts for multiple audiences is preferred. Experience writing for websites or working with content management systems (e.g., Drupal or Sharepoint) is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and familiarity with AP style. Experience working collaboratively to set goals and implement projects. Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline and handle several projects at once. Additional Information Work will be primarily remote with on-site attendance as needed, working with members of the Rogel communications team and others through staff meetings, emails, Zoom calls and other forms of communication. Fully remote candidates will be considered. This temporary position is expected to extend for 6 months to 1 year. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
