Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Principal Systems Modeling Engineer to join our team to support the Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) business unit. This position will reside in Salt Lake City, Utah.The main location of the PS&C business unit is in Elkton, Maryland. It began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Description: Serve as a Lead Engineer for the motion controls group development and production integration and test operations in Salt Lake City and surrounding locations. This role requires the candidate to function in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment. Daily responsibilities may require direct contact with sensitive avionics hardware and ground support equipment. The candidate may be expected to help develop, plan and/or perform integration and testing activities associated with the assembly of avionics hardware, testing of assembled systems and components, processing of telemetry and performance data, modeling and simulation of control systems, execution/support of live fire tests (static and/or flight) at various facilities or launch ranges and general production support for motion control hardware. Specific duties may include:System Integration and Testing responsibilities: Support (Lead as required) hands-on integration and/or testing of avionics control systems. Lead NGDS training & tasking of other team members in support of successful transition to production. Supporting live fire static testing and flight test events. Creating digital/physical mockups of tools and testing bays. Developing/maintaining procedures. Incorporating software/hardware/tooling design changes. Developing/planning/coordinating integration and/or test activities. Documenting/dispositioning hardware discrepancies. Ensure NGDS/NGMS collaborative assessment of producibility and testability concepts into early design phases. Avionics and Controls Responsibilities: Providing avionics operation support for testing. Providing training for technician personnel and customer community to operate avionics and ground support equipment as programs transition to production phases. Providing training for technician personnel and vendors to perform environmental acceptance testing on control system hardware. Analyzing control system performance data using MATLAB. Modeling control system performance using MATLAB/SIMULINK Program control responsibilities: Support program reviews as an engineering review authority and assist in resolution of program engineering challenges (technical, financial, and staffing). Maintain awareness over technical activities within and across contract for hardware integration, transition to production, testing, and verification/validation activities. Support new and follow-on business pursuits for the developing Motion Controls catalogue, providing technical liaison for new customers and engineering team. Basic Qualifications Must have a Bachelors degree in STEM plus at least 5 years of experience or a Masters degree and at least 3 years of experience. Degrees in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred. Candidate must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance. Candidate must possess or can obtain a U.S. Passport for travel. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to large customer community. Ability to solve problems, support troubleshooting efforts, drive tasks to completion. Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment and multi-task. Ability to work in a team environment and lead small projects or teams. Ability to travel: Travel expectation 50% Will be expected to provide on-site support to NGMS SLC, NGSS Bacchus, and NGSS Promontory, and NGDS Elkton. Experience with aerospace standards/guidelines Experience with external customer interfacing including meetings & presentations. Experience working with operational hazards such as propulsive devices, pressurized systems, overhead lifting, and high voltage systems. Knowledge and experience with MATLAB and Simulink. Experience working with design, integration, or testing of SRM control systems. Experience leading/training other engineers and/or team members. Hands-on mechanical aptitude and experience. Preferred Qualifications CAM certification and/or experience including EV training. PRB/MRB Training Experience with Root Cause analysis and troubleshooting Extensive experience with aerospace standards/guidelines for Environmental Stress Screening and Acceptance Testing of Moving Mechanical Assemblies Possess a current Secret Clearance Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
