Chardonnay is a 10+ year old female. She's not very friendly, but with a lot of patience she will come to tolerate your presence. She also doesn't care to be touched, but if you move slowly and touch her tail lightly, she will learn to accept it. In other words, she is not a cuddle buddy. She is a unique animal with a mind of her own. In 2023 she had a health scare when she entered breeding season. She stopped eating and lost a lot of weight and acquired a slight infection that was treated with a round of antibiotics. She was also feed a slurry to help her gain weight and appetite. Also, she has trouble with her left eye and was given eye drops that helped. Currently, (3/2024) she is eating great and shedding. You must have advanced iguana experience to adopt her. We don't know if her breeding season or eye issues will occur again, so potential adopters must know how to administer antibiotic injections and/or eye drops. Chardonnay has a lot of personality and could be called "spicy." She is best suited to a quiet house with an experienced keeper.Adoption processFirst we review you knowledge base of iguana husbandry. We make suggestions or corrections. We require that the enclosure is in move-in condition. A vet familiar with iguanas is required. We can make recommendations. A home visit is performed, or if out of the area, detailed photos are accepted. Our adoption fee is $75 or a spayed female is $100. An adopter has to be over 18 years old and a contract is signed.Shelter locationMost of the iguanas are fostered by me, Kathy, the President. Visits are by appointment only.
