Objective The Health Physicist, Radiation Safety Officer will be responsible to lead, implement, manage and monitor the Radiation Protection (RP) program at the site level. The position objective is to ensure the radiological safety of employees, contractors, and members of the public, through the safe manufacturing, testing and distribution of radioactive product in compliance with federal, state and local radiation safety regulations. This position proactively manages compliance with RP/EHS policies and regulations including NRC, OSHA, EPA and equivalent State regulations for the site. The RSO is expected to develop and foster internal client relationships and engagement with Perspective Therapeutics Radiation Protection and Environmental Health and Safety programs to minimize employee risks of occupational injury/illness and environmental impact of our business. Essential Functions Health Physicist, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) of record for the site radioactive materials license with the authority to enforce radiological policies and procedures regarding radiation safety and regulatory compliance in the use and handling of radioactive materials. Conduct required confirmatory surveys and train employees to conduct surveys. Lead the site Radiation Safety Committee and participate and/or lead the site Safety Committee. Able to perform complex dosimetry evaluations for internal exposure, external exposure and skin contamination events and ensure proper documentation of evaluations and dose assignments. Evaluate/recommend radiation safety controls for proposed new operations, or upgrades for existing operations, in accordance with ALARA principles. Develop and present radiation safety training programs to individuals and groups, including introductory radiation safety training, advanced training, and special topic/audience training as needed. Maintain RP Program surveys and compliance records to assure they are complete, legible and timely, to maintain awareness of radiological conditions, and to detect non-routine trends or conditions that may warrant further investigation. Represent the RP Program in radiological incident investigations and project committees to ensure radiation safety concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Facilitate annual audit of the radiation protection program. Perform radiological investigations and reports, determining root causes and appropriate corrective actions. Act as the RP lead for the investigation team. Designated point of contact for regulatory inspections of licensed operations. Responsible to communicate with state and federal regulatory agencies as needed. Ensure site maintains compliance with existing and proposed radiation safety regulations and standards that may affect operations. Advise management and escalate as needed. Provide technical RP and EHS support to site operations and personnel as needed. Maintains, develops and supports site EHS programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Lead the site emergency response, coordinating and/or providing technical information and guidance as the Emergency Response Coordinator during radiological and safety emergencies. Provide manufacturing and site support for off-hours or unscheduled batch runs as necessary, including periodic weekend support. Actively promotes safety rules and awareness. Always demonstrates good safety practices including the appropriate use of protective equipment. Reports and takes initiative to correct hazards. Ensure appropriate cross training is conducted with site technicians, supervisors and managers to ensure coverage when needed. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in health physics, physical science, engineering or biological science. Seven years of direct health physics experience, preferably within a complex manufacturing or research environment. Experience leading Radiation/EHS programs and initiatives and interfacing with regulators. Certified Health Physicist by the American Board of Health Physics a plus. OSHA 40-hour General Industry certification a plus. Experience with MS Office Suite required. Knowledge / Skill / Ability Considerable ability to work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of business trends and organizational objectives. Knowledge of incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Meets the training and experience requirements to be approved as Radiation Safety Officer by the State or NRC. Comprehensive knowledge of health physics and radiation protection theory and practice. Must be able to effectively communicate problems and solutions to workers and management and maintain positive, effective interpersonal relations. Experience in delivering focused customer service to all levels within the business environment. Effectively integrate activities across multiple areas by generating consensus-based decisions and using influence with multiple high-level managers within various organizations. Effective utilization of stakeholder engagement at all levels of the organization. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%. Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, including off shift, weekend, and holiday work as business needs require. May be required to sit or stand for long periods of 8+ hours a day while performing duties. Occasional kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, or reaching may be required. Must possess good hand-eye coordination; close attention to detail is required. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to mechanical/moving parts, hazards including radioactive, corrosive, flammable and toxic material, dust, dirt, odors, and irritants. Must be willing to wear a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye and hearing protection, as needed. Willingness to complete safety training within allotted timeframes, and work in a team-based environment.
