Meet Rio, the gentlest dog who is looking for her loving forever home. Rio's supermodel good looks and deep, soulful eyes are enough to stop any passerby in their tracks. But our sweet Rio had a rough start to her life: she was bred until she was dumped at a shelter at six years old with untreated mammary cancer. Despite that, our Rio is a true survivor! After three surgeries, she has completely beat cancer. While she may now be missing a line of nipples, her tender spirit remains unbroken. Rio's sweet and gentle disposition makes her the perfect addition to a family. She softly approaches people to give them a little boop and then steps back - no slobbering or jumping from this calm doggo. She enjoys nothing more than staying close to her family, but never gets in the way. She's incredibly gentle with children. Her foster home has a 4-year-old who is always around her, petting her and giving her treats. Her peaceful demeanor absolutely captivates children, who all seem to gravitate to this doggo who radiates calm. When settling down for the night, a few cuddles with her floppy, velvet ears and she'll soon be fast asleep (bonus points for rubbing her belly at the same time). She is also a fan of napping in the sunshine, taste-testing fresh grass during her walks, and snacking on Grandma Lucy's cookies. With her foster mom, she takes daily walks to the local pet store and has absolutely blossomed with meeting strangers. She's now become something of a local celebrity with an unofficial staff fan club. Although Rio was initially skittish and selective about other dogs, she is quickly learning to accept new friends and has even become smitten with an older male border collie in her neighborhood.
