Disability Services strives to foster partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to create environments that are accessible, diverse, and inclusive.About the Position:The Access Consultant reports directly to the Associate Director of Disability Services. The Access Consultant works with students to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and services to which the students are entitled to under the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Applying independent judgment and expertise, the Access Consultant interacts with faculty, parents and students; serves on university committees representing disability/accessibility-related issues and concerns; and engages in activities that promote campus accessibility, awareness and inclusive design.Responsibilities: * Develops, monitors, adjusts and evaluates individual accommodation plans for students. Maintains confidential student files, records and correspondence while tracking and compiling student information; * Provides ongoing student case management, follow-up and support of accommodations both in and out of the classroom, as well as related faculty support and advocacy; * Works collaboratively with the Disability Services staff to review and interpret confidential medical and psychological evaluations in order to determine student eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations; * Facilitates educational opportunities for campus and community stakeholders regarding Disability Services, the accommodations process, campus accessibility, etc.; and * Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in special education, counseling, a social services field, or another related field; or a combination of experience and education equal to an advanced degree; * Experience typically obtained in two years in working with students with disabilities, or equivalent; * Experience reading/interpreting psycho-educational, neuropsychological and other assessment-based reports; * Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADAA of 2008, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other appropriate laws; * Knowledge of psycho-educational assessments and disability-related accommodations; and * Ability to work collaboratively in a group and/or independently with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working with students with disabilities in a post-secondary education environment; * Experience documenting written decisions and case progress; * Experience with creating presentations or workshops and presenting to internal and external stakeholders/partners; * Experience with various Assistive Technologies related administrative/programmatic experience; * Experience working in a post-secondary educational environment; * Working knowledge of the accommodation process in higher education; * Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in higher education for students with disabilities; * Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of disability studies, disability identity, disability culture, disability history and rights, and Universal Design; * Ability to monitor extensive details while focusing on overall program mission; and * Ability to work early morning, evenings and/or weekends on occasion.
