The Study at University of Chicago is currently seeking a passionate Restaurant General Manager to guide, mentor, and manage our restaurant, Truth Be Told, & banquet teams. In this role, you will direct our Restaurant, Room Service, and Banquet outlets to ensure that the quality of service emphasizes genuine hospitality, review menu selections to meet guests’ demands, and cultivate a positive, forward-thinking work environment.Our caring and attentive associates reinforce our principal belief that guest service is our highest priority. Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and lounge, room service and banquet functions. Manage, mentor, and engage with restaurant and banquet managers, set clear expectations, and establish accountability in a team setting. Create and support a positive working environment that promotes curiosity, teamwork and fosters growth. Collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop and maintain menus for all outlets, consistent with the Company’s culinary objectives. Ensure menu items are priced to compete in the market with sensitivity to food costs and profitability. Recipes are to be thoroughly tested, food presentations and portions control are to be carefully reviewed with the culinary team before placing items on the menu. Responsible for the development of the department’s annual budgets and forecasts. Meet regularly with the General Manager and Controller to make adjustments to balance of year forecasts of revenues and operating costs assumptions. Work closely with Sales to promote banquet and private event services. Execute successful food and beverage marketing programs, artfully leverage revenue management, driving profit to the bottom line with solid financial control. Liaise and assist with Marketing and Communications teams to manage online reputation and communicate with guests through review sites and social channels. Comply with all federal, state, and local legal requirements, including food safety certification. Ensure application of procedures and regulations to staff concerning hygiene and sanitation, fire and safety, and emergency protocols. Fundamentals Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hotel Management, or related field is preferred. Experience: 7+ years in a similar role within a lifestyle brand hotel operation, with a proven advancement record, and currently employed in a management position. Certifications: ServSafe and Basset Effective leadership skills to engage, motivate and develop staff. Must be able to delegate, set priorities, utilize a team to execute short and long-term plans, and establish accountability in a team setting. Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by business needs. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills, including follow-up, time management, ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments, external vendors, and guests. Study Hotels is a drug free workplace. Pre-employment drug test and background check required.
