Job DescriptionPosition Description and SummaryResponsible for the safety of all members, guests, and employee partners in and around the swimming pool during posted hours of operation and special events or private functions.Essential Functions & Accountabilities: * Ensure all aspects of pool safety by enforcing all pool rules and Club policies. * Observe and enforce swimming pool hours of operation. * Maintain cleanliness of pool deck, lounge chairs and tables to ensure the safety of those in the area. * Straighten pool furniture and clean all pool areas at the beginning of each shift, throughout the day and at the end of each shift so that the safety of the members will be protected, and the pool area will maintain its standard of cleanliness. * When multiple lifeguards are on duty, they must be positioned strategically away from each other, ensuring all blind spots of the pool are being observed, and ensuring they are attending to members' needs. One lifeguard must be in the lifeguard's chair at all times during weekends, holidays or at the discretion of the General Manager. * Alternate with other lifeguards at pool reception desk, registering all members and guests entering the pool area. * Registration entails accurately noting each member's ID and advising members and guests of the price for entry, i.e., varies by weekday/weekend and membership type. * Be dressed appropriately in a clean uniform at all times while at work and on club property. * Lifeguards must ensure there is another lifeguard on duty prior to taking a break, i.e., meal, restroom, etc. * Maintain positive, friendly, and professional relations with members, guests, and club employees. * Promote club events. * Promptly notify supervisor of member/guest complaints or other issues. * Lock pool gate at the close of each shift. * Attend to all emergencies/injuries by filling out incident reports. Additional Responsibilities * Ability to communicate effectively with proper grammar. * Responsibility with contacting your manager with regard to absence from work and/or ensuring coverage of your shift with another pool staff member. Compensation: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour (dependent on experience)Experience: ideally 2 years of prior experienceHours: Full-Time SeasonalAttendance: Outlined in a weekly schedule produced by the Sports Club Director and/or the Pool Manager. Where You BelongDay-to-Day * Scan pool area to detect safety concerns and practice preventative lifeguarding. * Conduct self in a professional manner, understand, and relate to guests while using the pools. * Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, and the public. Quickly and efficiently respond to member questions, comments, and concerns. * Patrol pool areas to maintain cleanliness of the facility and equipment. Perform daily maintenance duties such as setting up for daily operation and major clean up at the end of the day. * Work at swim meets. * Test pool environment for proper chemical and environmental measures. About You * Must be 16 years of age. * Some High School or working towards a High School diploma. Some related work experience with pool operations preferred. * Current Nassau County Lifeguard Certification (including CPR/AED and First Aid). * Knowledge of how to prevent accidents and how to react if there is an accident. * Ability to swim for long distances, minimum 300 yards, and with great strength.
