Faust is an 8 year old Great Dane/mix located in Minneapolis, MN. While originally thought to be full Great Dane, DNA testing discovered he is a Great Dane/Golden Retrieve mix...a combination of 2 fantastic breeds! Faust is a major sweetheart and loves getting attention but is not a Velcro Dane in that he will put himself to bed in another room and then come back out and check on everyone. His puppy crazy days are done but he still has a lot of personality and is looking to spend his golden years in his new home. Faust's favorite activity is getting pets and will come up and nudge you with his nose to let you know he wants some. He is kennel trained but has been trusted with free roam around the house when people are away. Faust will alert his foster parents when there's someone or another dog coming to the house. He will stop barking when redirected. He hasn't exhibited barking while leashed on walks. He gets excited at the beginning of a walk but settles in well on his harness. He is house trained but does have a sensitive stomach that his forever home will want to monitor. At mealtime he is a food enthusiast and would not do well with free feeding. He will also sniff around for crumbs on the kitchen floor after meal prep. He isn't sure about the neighbor's indoor/outdoor cat and will bark at it through the chain link fence. He hasn't been evaluated actually living with cats. Faust exhibits some separation anxiety when his canine foster brother leaves the house on a leash. For this reason if the people have to take his foster brother out they will kennel Faust. Faust is healthy for his age. He does have a faint heart murmur that the vet does not feel needs to be medicated but his foster parents kept his exercise brief just to be safe. He hasn't been evaluated with kids but he's not a fan of a lot of commotion and chooses to retreat to a quieter room. Knowing that we feel a calmer home and if kids that they be older dog-savvy kids that could offer him quiet time as needed. A fenced yard is required unless he is always out on a leash. He has been known to push the storm door open to get out of the house. He also found out he could get out of the yard when the snowbank was piled up over the fence height after the blizzards and went on self-guided tours of the neighborhood.
