Do you want to work for a fast-growing organization which is passionate about sustainable growth, committed to a low carbon future, and believes in innovation?Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and driven individual to join our Business Development USA team!Reporting to the Vice President, Head of USA, as the Director Business Development - Interconnections and Transmissions, you are accountable for interconnection of new projects, leading transmission interconnections for development projects, and for commercially supporting in-construction projects across the US and Canada. This includes working with transmission owners and operators (the RTOs' and the ISO's), the load serving entities and transmission consultants. You will be the transmission lead and will work closely with internal Subject Matter Experts and consultants on siting, permitting, transmission and substation configuration, and will be the main contact for interaction with the transmission system owner and operator. You will also lead the transmission and interconnection due diligence on mergers and acquisitions. You will contribute to our team by Bringing transmission knowledge and experience to bear, to identify transmission and interconnection options and implementing and managing the most optimal interconnection for each project.Leading the interconnection processes and system studies, interconnection cost optimization and agreements and approvals.Bringing working knowledge of transmission system topology and flows, supply demand, interconnection process and transmission queues in development of greenfield, brownfield opportunities and in the evaluation of acquisition opportunities.Being the main point of contact for new interconnects, by managing the interactions with transmission owners and operators and ISOs, RTOs, and utilities.Proactively identifying and handling transmission risks, including curtailments, for the development pipeline to preserve and maintain value and identifying potential opportunities to reduce risk.Negotiating and managing interconnection agreements.Managing commercial issues during construction and acting as an intermediary between construction and engineering and the transmissions owner and operator (RTOs or the ISO).Possessing excellent knowledge of transmission access policies, processes, and regulatory requirements (local provincial/state and FERC).Proactively managing and ensuring compliance with all transmission and system access/interconnection agreements; based on a strong working knowledge of counterparties and regulations.Making recommendations and leading efforts to resolve and manage transmission and system access issues or disputes and serving as a primary contact on such issues to resolve disputes.Shaping emerging transmission access, interconnection trends, and policy in a manner consistent with optimizing the cost and timing for projects.Collaborating with CPC's Regulatory group and other SME groups as required to lend input on emerging transmission and interconnection trends, issues, or policies that may impact our growth objectives and coordinating with internal stakeholders to address and mitigate these threats and/or opportunities. What you will bring to the role Education: Degree Electrical Engineering, preferably a combination of degrees in Electrical Engineering, Finance, Commerce or Economics. Experience: 5-10 years of experience in commercial, engineering, business development, or financial and analytical roles; preferably interfacing with an ISO/RTO or a transmission owner / operator.Knowledge/experience with respect to transmission access, interconnection policies, power markets, power generation, power marketing, regulatory, commodities, transmission/transport and related agreements, and power purchase agreements is preferred.Deep understanding and experience in transmission system analysis, load flow studies, TX access and power markets, electricity generating plants, plant operations for each region where the assets are located.Experience working with complex legal agreements or contracts and TX access policies and processes. Technical Skills: Excellent negotiating experience and persuasive communications skills.Project management experience and ability to interface with all levels of the organization.Ability to identifies and escalate issues in a timely manner.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders, on multi-disciplinary issues and opportunities.Positive, outgoing attitude with a team-based perspective.Takes Initiative and has the ability to deal with ambiguity and conflict.Attention to detail and accuracy.Capable of making sound decisions on an independent nature and ability to handle dynamic and full workload.Ability to provide recommendations to Senior Management to resolve issues in a proactive manner that benefits the interests of Capital PowerEnsure supportive and collaborative relationships - both internally and externally. Working Conditions: Hybrid Office/Work from home Position.This position will involve travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices in the United States and Canada.Working Location: Phoenix, Arizona. Additional Details The pay range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000.
