I’m so happy you clicked on my profile. I’m a sweet and loving 12 year old St. Bernard. I spent my life living outside with limited food, water and attention, until recently when I was rescued. I’m so thankful to be in a warm house with loving humans. This is the life! Since I lived all my life outside, I am learning all kinds of new things. I can go up and down the front porch and deck stairs, but too many scare me. I don’t tell my foster mom and dad when I have to go potty, but they let me out every few hours and I haven’t had any accidents. I can also go all night without needing to go outside or having accidents. I don’t like being in a kennel, maybe because I lived my whole life in one, but I do well in my own room/space on a dog bed. If I could chose, I would chose laying on the floor next to my humans all day and night. I’m a very mellow dog. Sometimes you can find me “chasing” my own tail, but for the most part I just want to be close to you so I can be petted. Foster mom and dad have three other dogs in the house that range from 14lbs to 90lbs. We all get along great, unless they try coming by my food. I’m protective of my food and water, maybe because I don’t want to share, so it’s important to feed me separately. I don’t do this with my humans around me though. I love treats and will wait patiently for you to give them to me. The smell of human food is fascinating to me, so watching me closely or having me in a separate room when food is around will be important. I am learning to not “counter surf” and I’m getting better every day. I’m not bothered by much at all. There are two kids (11 yr old and 6 yr old) in my foster home that give me a lot of cuddles and attention and I love it. The only time I give one or two barks is if I’m excited and want to play with one of the other dogs in the home. I’m looking forward to meeting my forever family. Considering Equay's size and age, we've made the decision not to proceed with her spay procedure and the removal of her mammary masses. Consequently, her prospective adoptive home must be informed / comfortable with the fact that she remains intact and has mammary masses. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape. Equay is from a northern MN reservation.
