BCRTA's Trainer position is responsible for the efficient and effective hands-on training of new and veteran vehicle operators or other staff members that are required to operate in revenue service. The Trainer will be a key position for the delivery of new hire and refresher or remedial training. In addition, the trainer will assist in organizing training events and coordinating all associated record keeping needs. POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The Trainer will perform a variety of hands-on training activities with new and veteran vehicle operators. The Trainer will be a key position for the delivery of new hire and refresher or remedial training. In addition, the trainer will assist in organizing training events and coordinating all associated record keeping needs. We have a full-time and part-time position available. Part-time candidates must be available for personal training in a full-time capacity up to six weeks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs training in some or all the following areas: ADA functions BTW – Fixed BTW – Paratransit BTW - Remedial CDL Classroom CPR/First Aid Maneuvers Refresher Maintains knowledge by attending train-the-trainer classes. Regularly operates or performs classroom and behind the wheel training in revenue service. Assists the Operations Manager with creating, maintaining, and properly filing detailed training records. Completes annual recertification as required. Safely operates vehicles, tests, and inspects equipment in accordance with pre-trip vehicle inspection procedures. Requests appropriate service and maintenance on BCRTA vehicles when necessary. When training new employees, maintains proper radio communication with dispatch center and responds to all instructions and related requests on a timely basis. Studies and is familiar with geography of BCRTA service areas. Highlights areas for service improvement and communicates needs with the Training Manager and Operations Department. Properly maintains vehicle during service: Cleans vehicle at end of shift according to BCRTA policy and procedures, removes ice and slush from vehicle steps and ramps, properly manages vehicle HVAC and lighting, keeps all vehicle entrances, exits, and interior surfaces clear of debris, etc. Inspects bulletin board and checks mailbox/email/Paycom each workday. Fills out all forms as required providing necessary detail and submitting to proper recipient(s) in a timely manner. Reports all accidents immediately over the radio to Dispatch and ensures that the Training Manager is in communication. Also is required to submit a written report within twenty-four hours. Attends court proceedings when necessary. Expected to maintain a professional demeanor and keep confidentiality a priority. Expertly models all criteria described in the Vehicle Operator job description and BCRTA Employee Handbook. Acts as a BCRTA ambassador, projects a positive attitude, and promotes superior customer service. REQUIREMENTS: Physical & Visual Activities: Physically and mentally qualified to safely operate transit vehicles and perform all related essential job functions. (Subject to applicable legal requirements, must meet the physical qualification standards specified in the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.) Physical Abilities include: Floor Lift a minimum of 30 lbs. Knee lift strength of at least 30 lbs. Waist lift strength of at least 50 lbs. Chest lift strength of at least 20 lbs. Overhead lift strength of at least 20 lbs. Horizontal push/pull strength of at least 80 lbs. Medium agility/dynamic balance Low finger dexterity Low manual dexterity Continuous ability to stay seated Continuous ability to twist and turn head Frequently able to bend over/stoop Frequently able to climb steps Kneel or squat Reach overhead ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS: Occasional exposure to exhaust fumes. 70% outdoor conditions and onboard bus or other vehicles. 30% office and training room. Required to work in inclement weather. JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Skills and Abilities: Ability to negotiate, train and persuade. Ability to read and interpret documents and instruments. Ability to analyze problems and recommend corrective courses of action. Ability to multitask in a quick-paced environment without forgetting details. Well-developed oral and legibly written communication ability. Demonstrates excellent command of the English language. Work under frequent periods of stress. Performs as an effective team player. Ability to perform simple math. Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications and the ability to learn online database and training systems. Experience: One-year experience as BCRTA vehicle operator or equivalent. Education: High School diploma or GED required. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS; Valid Class B CDL with a passenger endorsement, no air brake restriction required to be obtained within six months of hire or at the Training Manager’s discretion. Subject to termination if requirement is not met. Certified First Aid and CPR trainer, or ability to obtain. Completion of, or ability to complete BCRTA Behind-The-Wheel Trainer Program within the first three months of employment.
