Adopt Pongo a Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut Shiba Inu / Mixed dog in Colorado

#### Pongo is a Shiba Inu puppy who weighs 16 pounds. Average weight for an adult male Shiba is 23 pounds so he is still growing. He is a very handsome guy and making progress in our behavior program. He loves other dogs and playing with them. He has done well with all dogs he has been in play groups with but we do group them by size. He relies on other dogs for safety and if they are not around, he hides. He requires a confident sibling in his forever home and a 5 foot high fence for the yard. Pongo really likes toys and has a lot of delightful puppy energy. Pongo is very unsure of people at this point. When he knows the people in his play group, and there aren't a lot of people around, he is food motivated. He is not approaching people just yet but he does eat snacks tossed toward him. He is a shy observant boy who is a flight risk, but we will give you information and support on how to keep him safe. Kids are scary for Pongo so he needs an adult only home. Pongo will need a quiet predictable home where he is allowed to grow at his own pace. We do know that exercise is so helpful with anxiety and Pongo's sibling will be helpful in getting him comfortable with a harness and leash. This will take quite a while though, so treat puzzles along with romping in the yard will be very helpful to start. This puppy is ready for life in a home and we hope that will be your home. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
