Details Location: San Francisco, CA (in-person role with work from home flexibility) Reports to: Head of School Organization Operating Revenues: $10 million ($2.5 million in philanthropy) Capital Campaign: $65 million Position Reporting to the Head of School ( HoS ), the Director of Development (DoD) serves as a key leadership member, the head of the development team, and is actively involved in strategic decisions affecting New School San Francisco. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities, including the Capital and Annual Campaigns. The successful candidate will cultivate and sustain new and existing relationships - directly or through the school’s leadership - to build the New School San Francisco’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The DoD will build off ongoing design, strategy, and analysis work to design and implement a comprehensive plan, develop key external partnerships, and cultivate individual and institutional partners. The DoD will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the strategies and infrastructure needed to grow a $10M budget and achieve a $65M capital campaign through the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support. They will expand and diversify New School San Francisco’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. The DoD will lead and manage the school’s development team and work closely with the board of directors to build its fundraising capacity. Responsibilities • Set the vision and strategy for our large campaigns (capital and operational) • Support and partner with the HoS and board members on all major fundraising initiatives • Collaborate with the HoS and fiance team to develop and implement the school’s financial strategy • Collaborate with the HoS and others responsible for communications to develop and implement the school’s marketing strategy, including development collateral • Actively work with the HoS and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development plan to include corporate, foundation, government grants, etc. • Oversee the development and execution of all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach • Oversee the research of funding sources and trends • Set up and monitor all campaign and donor information; provide statistical analysis to board and senior leaders • Develop and implement a stewardship / relationship management program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program • Manage, develop, retain and grow our development team • Collaborate across teams internally to learn, manage expectations, and engage the broader team in fundraising activities Qualifications • 10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources) • Tangible experience cultivating and expanding major donor relationships (and major gifts) over time, preferably within a capital campaign • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan, including development of collateral • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives • Ability to work independently without close oversight and collaborate effectively within teams and across levels of seniority. • Able to productively engage with others within and outside organization • Strong organizational skills • High energy and passion for New School San Francisco’s mission is essential • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Resourceful with the ability to take initiative, and manage multiple tasks and projects • Bachelor’s degree required Compensation • $110,000 - $160,000: Salary is commensurate with experience and other qualifications • Competitive benefits package including health and retirement Contact Contact XXXX@newschoolsf.org with any questions and/or to submit a cover letter and resume for consideration Powered by JazzHR
