WHAT YOU'LL DO The Trafficking Prevention Advocate is primarily responsible for responding to youth who may be at risk of experiencing human trafficking and youth victims/survivors of intersecting forms of violence and abuse through the agency's Social Services Advocacy program, providing a combination of trauma-informed case management services to children/youth experiencing trafficking, and outreach, training and education to community partners throughout agency service region; navigating multiple systems, including law enforcement (federal, State, and local), social services, public housing, criminal and civil legal systems, and public assistance. We do this through education, prevention, advocacy, and providing comprehensive services, including shelter, to victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and other types of crime victimization. WHAT YOU'LL BRING ALONG Must have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, international relations, or a related field or equivalent work experience in providing Direct Crisis Counseling and Advocacy Services. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs. Experience creating presentations, facilitating programs, and providing training for large groups. Valid Driver's License, Auto Insurance, and reliable transportation to travel between the agency's office sites and other locations throughout the service region. Physical demands include but are not limited to long periods of sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds, and navigating stairs. POSITION TITLE: Trafficking Prevention Advocate REPORTS TO: Child Welfare Advocacy Services Program Manager PRIMARY WORKSITE: Liberty, NY, Sullivan County CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Nonexempt WORK HOURS: Typically, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility around evenings, weekends, and holidays. Note, primarily business hours with evening shifts require one holiday per year. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Advocacy & Program Specific Responsibilities Provide culturally informed, trauma-responsive crisis intervention and nonjudgmental, supportive hotline counseling, assessments, shelter screenings, and intake interviews for hotline callers and walk-in clients at the Family Justice Center and other locations within the community. Support the Anti-Trafficking Program by working at assigned(s) Children's Services office locations, engaging in joint home visits with caseworkers and law enforcement, engaging victims/survivors in ongoing services and supporting their advocacy needs, providing safety planning and collaborating on these efforts with the program team. Ensure the provision of comprehensive case management and supportive counseling services to youth at risk of being exploited by human trafficking or are victims of human trafficking to ensure their needs are addressed in a timely, culturally appropriate, and trauma-responsive manner for each program participant. Serve as an essential information resource for the program but also set the example of adequate direct service provision, with a steadfast commitment to prioritizing the needs and well-being of victims and survivors as the ultimate goal. Assist the program manager with coordinating "task force" activities and community partner communication. Provide outreach and training to community partners, including healthcare providers, law enforcement, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and other social service agencies. Assist clients in exploring options regarding the legal system, housing, economic/financial, safety planning, risk assessment, etc. Provide clients with information regarding the NYS Office of Victims Services (OVS), assist with filing applications for OVS compensation, and serve as a liaison between clients and OVS. Provide on-call advocacy outside of traditional business hours, as scheduled. As appropriate, engage in ongoing learning and development by proactively participating in webinars, in-service, and external training. Identify programmatic trends and needs at the direct service level of the program- and collaborate with the program manager/director to strategize & implement program enhancements. Work toward proficiency in the Safe Harbor Act Legislation, accompanying regulations, reauthorizations, and related policies.Worksite Safety & Hygiene Actively engaging in basic housekeeping, maintenance, organization of donations, and other assigned tasks. Adhere to and uphold agency policies and protocols for the physical and electronic security of client and service records. Ensure ongoing compliance with State and other regulations regarding the condition of the residence and services provided. Administrative & Agency Responsibilities Serve as a primary resource for on-the-job training and support to team members during onboarding and throughout employment by consistently modeling, teaching, and inspiring team members to perform effectively. Provide comprehensive support to program staff within and outside the program and agency by coaching them to excel in advocacy, aligning their efforts with the agency's mission, and efficiently addressing program needs. Collaborate with management and team to co-facilitate monthly team meetings within the Child Welfare Services Program and across the organization. Actively engage in supervision sessions with the Program Manager/Director to ensure the attainment of performance expectations and optimal client impact. Participate in program-specific learning, agency-wide meetings, training, awareness month activities, and events. Maintain the confidentiality of clients, staff, volunteers, and agency information. Maintain the highest levels of accuracy in recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring that all client records and documentation of work activities are complete and up-to-date and submitted to the supervisor as directed. Ensure timely response and follow-up to email communication and voicemail messages. Staff members are encouraged to be flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of duties, including other duties as assigned by immediate and other supervisors. Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, crisis-oriented environment: assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, maintain organization, and meet deadlines. Possess strong communication skills (both oral and written). Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others, communicate as needed, and exhibit patience and understanding toward the client population served. Experience working with diverse populations and seeking an understanding of cultural differences. Understand and work from a feminist philosophy of empowerment and support the agency's mission. Bonus Qualifications: Direct experience working within residential settings, social services, and with the homeless population is preferred. Experience with client management software.
