The Chief Financial Officer ensures that NHPR is financially strong, efficient, cost-effective and smooth running, so the organization can fulfill its vision of using trustworthy journalism to enrich people's lives and build stronger communities. As a key member of the senior team, the Chief Financial Officer will serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and Board of Trustees. The Chief Financial Officer will provide useful financial insights to aid decision making and have day-to-day responsibility for planning and managing all financial and critical operational activities of the organization. The Chief Financial Officer reports to the President/CEO. This is a hybrid-eligible role based in Concord, NH. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Lead the strategic work of stewarding NHPR's financial health and operational effectiveness, in support of our mission of public service journalism and community empowerment. Serve as a strategic business partner for NHPR's CEO, Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and other senior leaders. Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee and Investment Sub-Committee; support these committees through communications, research and follow-up. Attend Board and committee meetings as required; Build the organization's financial acumen and a culture of financial stewardship, transparency, financial literacy and accountability; Assist the CEO and VP of Development in analyzing new opportunities, drafting prospective programmatic budgets, and determining the cost effectiveness of initiatives; Contribute to the development, delivery and overall management of strategic goals and operating goals for the organization; and As a member of NHPR's senior team, embody and model the organization's values and work collaboratively to advance the organization's mission, vision and strategy. Financial Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to maintain and continually strengthen internal accounting controls; Lead the development of the annual organizational budget and other short and long-term financial planning efforts; Produce monthly financial and operational analysis reports; Direct accounting operations, including the recording of routine transactions, processing of accounts payable, reconciliation of the general ledger trial balance to its various subsidiary ledgers, and the preparation of financial statements; Effectively manage a team of finance professionals - either in-house or contracted - inspiring and motivating exceptional performance; and Oversee and manage the organization's investment accounts in conjunction with the Investment Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees. Contracts, Compliance, and Governance Act as compliance officer: Track compliance requirements and ensure that NHPR stays in compliance with all applicable regulations, e.g., FCC, CPB, state and municipalities; Prepare the Annual Financial Report and the Station Activity Surveys required by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Manage the annual audit and filing of the 990, ensuring timely and accurate compilation of required documents, reports and reconciliations necessary from all departments; Oversee the language, annual updates, contract process, organizational management and compliance of all vendor/partner contracts/agreements; Ensure debt service compliance, filing bi-annual reports to banking institutions; Administer the organization's retirement plans and file annual reports as required; Manage insurance for the organization, including risk management and compliance; and Maintain and review all business and financial policies on an annual basis or as needed, in conjunction with the appropriate board committee. Preferred Experience: We're looking for someone with these skills, qualities, and credentials... Bachelor's degree required; MBA or MPA preferred; 10+ years of progressively increasing financial management and operational experience, with preference for leadership experience in a non-profit; Deep financial management and/or accounting background (at $5M+ organizations preferred), including financial modeling; Experience with managing staff and budgets, project planning and execution, and working with boards; Respect for the values of mission-oriented, public service journalism; A commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion; Highly organized, resourceful, accountable, and detail-oriented; Unquestioned ethics; Excellent management, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; and The ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making and demonstrate trustworthiness in dealing with confidential matters. ...but we know there are great candidates who may not have all these qualities or who have important skills we haven't thought of.
