The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting Fall of 2023. Suitable applicants should demonstrate the ability to contribute to the research areas of criminology and criminal justice. The areas of specialization are open, but the program is interested in applicants with strengths in the areas of criminology, criminal justice, and crime scene forensics. The Department offers bachelors' degrees in three disciplines: Criminal Justice, Criminology and Forensics Criminology. Candidates must possess teaching experience and a strong willingness to advise and work closely with students. A Ph.D. in criminal justice or criminology is preferred and proven research potential in these fields. An ABD with expected degree completion date within six months of the start of the position or a terminal degree in a field related to criminal justice/criminology may be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate leadership in best practices and/or excellence in policing/criminology/criminal justice. General teaching duties will include four courses per semester. The candidate will likely be expected to teach introductory courses in criminology and/or criminal justice, criminological theory, legal studies, victimology, introductory statistics, research methods in criminology and criminal justice, and correctional counseling. They may also be asked to teach courses involving Sociology or crime scene forensics and advise students majoring in criminology with an emphasis on forensic science.
