Power Electronics Engineer/Scientist - infiniRel

Location:
Stanford, CA
Description:

You are start-up compatible, perhaps start-up proven, and excited about the challenge to make an impact in the cleantech and renewable energy sector. You are passionate about reliability and your past accomplishments demonstrate you are an out-of-the-box thinker and innovator with a "can-do" attitude. Power Electronics Engineer/Scientist responsibilities • Analyze component failure signatures of solar inverters ranging from 4kW to 4MW • Model popular inverter architectures, and simulate their failure characteristics • Perform Failure Method and Effects Analysis (FMEA) • Abstract and model our data-acquisition system that captures inverter inputs and outputs • Synthesize above models to understand signal sensitivity and performance limitations • Develop mixed-signal and digital signal-processing techniques to improve signal quality • Make recommendations for, and develop wide-bandwidth current and high-voltage sensors • Develop test designs for accelerated failure testing of inverters and our data acquisition systems. Qualifications Candidates with experience with either high-voltage solar, wind, motor, battery-, or EV power-train inverters, who possesses safety relevant training, or experience, working with 1,000V systems at more than 1,000A current levels will rank high on our list. This experience may come from design, test, or quality assurance work that includes Failure Method and Effect Analysis (FMEA). The preferred candidate has also demonstrated proficiency in mixed-signal systems, signal analysis, signal-processing, noise and signal filtering techniques, and possesses a solid understanding of various control schemes used by inverters, or power converters at large. A basic understanding of the featurization process and trade-offs between for time-series signals and image processing techniques, which are then processed by Machine Learning algorithms, is a plus. The ideal candidate has followed a complete cradle-to-grave life cycle for an inverter, designed accelerated life tests, and possesses good command of suitable analytics and modeling tools, such as: • SPICE, • Matlab/Octave, • Ansys’ multi-physical modeling suite, • Python coding for data analysis, and • is proficient in schematic capture and layout for data-acquisition systems. You will come in at the ground level to build the foundation of a hardware-enabled data platform that makes renewable energy more reliable and affordable. As an early member of the team, you will report to the CEO of the company (we are small team!). Power is essential for our lives coming from solar power and energy storage systems, and consumed by electric vehicles on the road and in the sky. infiniRel is an award-winning start-up moving headquarters to Oakland, CA with operations in Chicago, IL, Tucson, AZ, and Germany. While the candidate’s co-location with any of the above locations is preferred, the company offers remote home office, and you are able to travel 10% of the time (domestic). At this time the company is not in a position to offer full relocation, nor visa sponsorship. The company offers Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) commensurate with your expertise to compensate for a reduced cash component of your compensation until our completed milestones afford pay increases. Your cash components will be matching the funding and revenue levels of the company, which will require you to be financially flexible during the first phase of the project. Vesting of RSUs is based on time and completed milestones. You will have the opportunity to participate in our self-directed infiniRel 401(k) plan. Additional investment options as well as benefits such as a health plan will be offered as funding, revenues, and minimum staffing requirements allow. infiniRel lives at the nexus of analog high-performance sensing, digital signal processing, machine learning, and cloud-to-edge computing. Interested to join the infiniRel team? Talk to us and send your list of relevant accomplishments and your motivation. All new employees hired in the United States are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to such exceptions as required by law. If hired, you will be required to submit proof of full vaccination or have an approved accommodation along with your executed offer of employment. NO RECRUITERS PLEASE. ANY UNINVITED SOLICITATION OR THIRD-PARTY CANDIDATE SUBMISSION WILL REMAIN PROPERTY OF INFINIREL WITHOUT COMPENSATION.
