A Brief Overview Recognized as a point-of-contact for a specialized patient population, along with providing efforts consistent to the mission of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the following domains:ClinicalReviews patient information, evaluates family history, conducts risk assessment, and recommends medical or genetic testing based on analysis.Provides crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling as necessary.Works directly with the Attending Physician assigned to the patient population.EducationMay assist with education/ mentorship within the Division, along with serving as a supervisor to Genetic Counseling graduate students during their clinical rotations.ResearchMaybe also involved with research activity related to their specialized patient population.This position includes active participation within the Section of Genetic Counseling.Additionally, this position involves an enhanced level of participation and responsibilities within, but not exclusive of, the following:AdministrationEducation/ Scholarly Pursuits (Publications)ResearchClinicalResponsibilities Over Staff (is not limited to Genetic Counseling Staff)If acceptable by clinical leadership within the GCs Division, this role is able to engage in Incident-to Follow Up visits for established patients to the practice to assist with returning test results, updating medical and family histories, reviewing testing options, and evaluating familial recurrence risks.Find out more about our Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment. http://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/center-fetal-diagnosis-and-treatment What you will do Recognized as a point-of-contact for a specialized patient population Sought out to provide outreach and education Published on posters/ abstracts/ publications Present cases at rounds, or other conferences Provides clinical education and mentorship to Genetic Counseling graduate students Involvement with limited research administrative functions (IRB submissions, time and effort reporting) Education Qualifications Master's Degree Required Experience Qualifications At least six (6) years as an independent genetic counselor Preferred Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability in counseling, skills, techniques and other related areas. Subject to pressure related to emergency clinical problems. Must have a high degree of flexibility of skills and hours. Prior experience with clinical data or research data is preferred. Licenses and Certifications Licensed Genetics Counselor - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and Certified Genetics Counselor - American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) - upon hire - Required To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
