This position is a full-time surgical technology instructor thatmay be used in the classroom, in skills labs, simulation, and clinically. Theselected candidate may be used in any teaching modality necessary toachieve the Surgical Technology Program's goals. Staff Instructor - Surgical Technology Instructional Stafffunctions within the SurgicalTechnology Program within the Division of HealthProfessions & Biomedical Sciences andseeks to support a student-centered learning environment, focused on helping SurgicalTechnology students achieve their educationalgoals. Surgical Technology Staff Instructors are allocated teaching responsibilitiesthat achieve the course, the Program, theCampus, and the College outcomes. Surgical Technology Staff Instructors are actively engaged in communityoutreach, curriculum development, evaluation of student learning outcomes, andcontributors to the change process, driven by the College, Campus, and theProgram strategic plans. Surgical Technology StaffInstructors report directly to the Director of Surgical Technology.Salary - Initial salary placement is based on education and experience. Duties and Responsibilities: * Instruct students and work with them on learningstrategies to help them achieve academic success * Use current, active, and effective classroommanagement techniques * Monitorinstruction delivery to ensure Student Learning Outcomes are met in theclassroom, discipline/program, and College level * Evaluate and create formative andsummative report on student learning and performance * Provide a formative and summative studentprogress report to program director and students in meeting course objectives.program requirements, and program outcomes * Continuallyimprove instruction, utilizing appropriate delivery methods; including theapplication of technology * Evaluate and revise course outlines and coursematerials * Provide academic advising, participate instudent success models, and other activities that communicate programexcellence * Maintaincompetency and currency in the teaching fields, as well as in teachingstrategies, subject delivery modalities, and assessment methods * Activelyserve as a member of the department and discipline groups; participate inprogram and college governance * Participatein fostering partnerships that strengthen educational opportunities in responseto community needs * Represent the department and/or campus on College-widecommittees * Workcollaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, and utilize a collegialstyle in all forms of communication * Engage and promote a culture of excellenceboth internally and externally to the program at all times * Organize and administer lab andclinical experiences for students * Pursueongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional andinstructional capabilities * Other duties as assigned by theSurgical Technology Program Director or designeeJob Requirements: * Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency or an Associate degree with a concentration in surgical technology from an accredited program and * Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or attain the necessary credential within 6 months of employment and * Minimum of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five yearsAdditional Information: * Must provide a current BLS Healthcare Provider certification card through the American Heart Association and * Must submit clinical eligibility items including, but not limited to, a variety of immunizations and a health physicalPreferred: * Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes. * Prior experience in teaching (part-time or full-time) which may include: * Proficient in student learning styles and have the ability to adapt and modify instruction based upon the instructional needs of the students; must have high instruction/learning standards in traditional/non-traditional formats * Knowledge of assessment instruments and interpretation practices to improve instruction to meet College, Program, and course outcomes/objectives * Knowledge of advising principles and resources available to assist students with academic and personal challenges, as well as have the ability to assist students to access such resources * Knowledge of diverse community college student populations and have the ability to address diversity in effective instructional practices and student learning; have the characteristics of inclusivity and individual respect * An appreciation and support of the College mission, the College strategic plan, the West Campus strategic plan, and the Surgical Technology Program's mission, vision, philosophy and strategic plan * Knowledge and ability to function in the change process, further develop clinical partnerships with the local surgical technology industry, and support innovative change practices to improve the course, program, and college outcomes * Demonstrated engagement in a culture of excellence and student-focused environment, high level of integrity and civility * Knowledge of accreditation practices, systematic evaluation plansThe ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: * Student learning styles: abilityto adapt and modify instruction based on the instructional needs of thestudent * Assessmentinstruments and their interpretation: knowledge of appropriate and effectiveuse of assessment information to improve instruction * Evaluationof students' educational progress: the ability to maintain high instruction andlearning standards and assess students' academic progress in meeting courseobjectives and student learning outcomes * Teaching in traditional andnon-traditional formats; knowledge of curriculum development, course design,and delivery * Techniquesfor academic advising: knowledge of the resources available to students toassist them with academic and personal challenges, and the ability to helpstudents access those resources * Competencies inmulticulturalism, diversity, and inclusivity: knowledge ofdiverse community college student populations and the ability to addressdiversity in effective instructional practice and student learning * Mission: appreciation for theCommunity College mission, vision, and values * Understandingand promoting a culture of excellence focused on data collection/analysis,continuous quality improvement, customer service, and regulation compliance * Contributeand support a culture of excellence including high-quality team dynamics, civility,and continuous quality improvement (personal and programmatic) * Other duties as assigned
