Summary This position is located in the Red Lake Hospital in Bemidji Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of the positions is to provide clinical nursing services in the Inpatient care setting that may include emergency room, urgent care or the outpatient department. The position requires licensure as a registered nurse. Duties Provides a high standard of nursing services in accordance with sound professional nursing principles and the ability to adapt services insuring basic and special needs of the patients using nursing process. Systematically assesses patient care needs through analysis of data gained through interviews with patient and/or family, objective findings review of health record and consultation with physician and other staff members. Constantly reassesses needs based on patients' response to medical and nursing regimes. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician such as medications, immunizations, treatments, intravenous fluids, naso-gastric suction. Basic Requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) Grade LevelIn addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:GS-07 - at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: providing professional nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with proceduresGS-09 - at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
