Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix Dog for Adoption in Holly Springs, North Carolina, 27540 USNickname: Letty Posted Breed: Hound / Rhodesian Ridgeback / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Online Adoption Application › Apply here: .pawfectmatch/animals/detail?AnimalID=19839597 Lovable Letty is a rock star! She is very calm, easygoing, and loves people and other dogs. She has an eager, wagging tail for everyone she meets and likes to just push her head against your leg for head pets. She immediately settled into the home and learned our routine. She seems to have been trained and loved at one point. She is very sensitive to human emotions and knows when her foster mama is stressed. She will come and lay her head on your foot to try to make it better. I think she would make a good emotional support animal with training as she longs to be with people. Letty is interested in toys, but not excessively so. She is not a chewer and really loves to just curl up on a doggie bed while she watches you go about your day or cuddle up next to you on the sofa. Letty is extremely smart and learned how to use a doggie door immediately. She does great in a crate. She also does great out in the home. She was not potty trained when she was rescued but only has gone in the house when she had diarreha. She asks to go out and goes potty outside when you tell her to. She has jumped the low gate 2 times only and both were when the other dogs were being walked without her and she just ran right to us. She has never tried to climb or jump the 4 ft fence or escape the yard any other time. She is a perfect houseguest who deserves a home of her own. She sits , waits for her treat or bowl of food. She has not barked at deer or people walking by etc- she has been totally quiet except when she thought we were hanging out without her. At that time she barked a few times then stopped. UPDATE: Since having Letty, I have seen her climb a fence because she did not want to be left alone in the back yard. She walks well on the leash and will pull slightly if there is something fun to sniff. Oh, did I mention other dogs? She does well with submissive dogs that don’t try to challenge her get in her face. But if a dog does try to growl or snap at her, she will snap back. UPDATE: this statement is very true. If she feels threatned, she will defend herself and you. She is very protective. We do not take her to dog parks. She does well on the Greenway and we have taken her to Lowe's a few times. She has not paid much attention to the other dogs there but we do not approach other dogs. She likes to mind her own business mostly. We have 2 other dogs and she gets along great with one and not so well with the other. We recommend she be the only dog in the home initally. Letty does need to be fed separately from other dogs as she may be protective of her food. We think that she didn't have easy access to food with her original owner. I have fed her separately just as I do my others but she sits next to them for treats and there has never been food aggression or issue. I have taken her to restaurants and she just laid by the table and didn’t beg for any food or bother anyone. UPDATE: We currently feed her in a separate room in our home. But as stated, she does well with treats. We are able to pick up her food bowl while she is eating without her snapping or growling at us. Letty would be very gentle with young children. At most, they can expect a lick in the face if they get too close. She seems to want to be around kids and greeted them on our hikes. Letty would be great in an apartment or enjoy a yard-- she really could go anywhere. She would be a great wingman at dog-friendly establishments as she sort of just 'hangs out' and watches, with an occasional head butt to give love to her human. She hangs out in the car without getting nervous or sick on long rides. UPDATE: She does EXCELLENT on car rides. We have tried to put her in the front but she prefers to ride in the back. Put her a cozy blanket back there and she is good to go. Letty was pulled from Northampton County Animal Shelter just hours before she was to be euthanized for space. This rescue couldn't bear to see such a sweet soul snuffed out before her time as she is incredibly adoptable. Letty's original owner let her roam free and when animal control picked her up, they said they didn't want her back. How awful is that? The neglect is seen in her coat -- at one point she had a lot of fleas and scratched herself a lot. This seems to be resolving as at first I gave her Benadryl and now have not had to give her anything. Letty is heartworm-negative, up to date on all vaccines, and is spayed. PS: Cats! Letty wants to chase cats. She WILL hurt a cat!!! It would be safest if she went to a cat-free home. UPDATE: Letty, aka: Lady, is a super lovebug. We have been fostering her a little over a month now. This little girl just wants to be loved and be with her people. She is VERY easy to train and wants to make you happy. She loves to snuggle and cuddle. She enjoys long walks and hikes. She will walk as long as you want to. She needs to stay on leash. She is very interested in squirrels and bunnies and any small creature including smal dogs and cats. We do not recommend her being around any of the mentioned. She can jump very high. Do not underestimate that. If she wants out of a fence, she will get out. She did well with the crate but is ready to come out when she sees us. She is always greeeting us with a wagging tail and a sweet face. She gives little kisses. She is very supportive when I have been emotional. She runs right over to us to make sure we are ok. She will learn anything for treats. She knows sit and is getting better at stay but has not yet mastered that. She can shake and she knows "Up". We have introduced different foods to her, like cucmber, pumpkin, chicken, eggs, cheese, and peanut butter. Just to name a few. We are getting better at potty training. She does ask in her way to go potty. Mostly when she jumps off the bed and goes to our door. She has had a few accidents in our bathroom. Nothing major. OVerall, She is super sweet. Super smart. Super loving and caring. Wants to please you and protect you. And wants love in return.
