Overview (Scope Of Role)Based at Trinseo/Altuglas LLC's R&D facility in King of Prussia, PA, the R&D Application Development Engineer - Plastics/Polymers supports key development projects in the PMMA resins product line. Primary focus is supporting application and product development activities in lighting, medical, and consumer electronics/optical markets.This is a hybrid position that will require 4-5 days in the King of Prussia, PA R&D facility per week with some weeks having additional flexibility depending on team needs.This role will require 10-20% travel for customer visits and trials. Responsibilities Essential FunctionsApplication and Product Development (60%)Develop new testing capability or equipment capability as needed to support new product and application development for PMMA injection molded products.Conduct trials, develop process parameters, complete characterization, data analysis and prepare reports/presentations to support new developments for key projects, or programs. Able to interpret data and articulate results within work group as well as draw conclusions to help steer experimental planning.Coordinate with analytical sciences team to complete testing and summarize results.Generates and documents results to support product registration, technical literature, research direction, and patent applications.Stays up to date on developments in key markets of interest (lighting, optical, medical, and consumer electronics), relevant processes, equipment, software, product design.Maintain close partnership with internal (commercial and new business development teams) and external stakeholders to accelerate new product/application development effortsRepresent Trinseo/Altuglas in strategic customer meeting (including global accounts, key validation partners), conferences, tradeshows, and industry trade organizations.Process Expertise (20%)Develop new processing and testing expertise to support our new developments in lighting, medical, and consumer electronics/optical markets.Operate all equipment and conduct experiments safely and with proper precautions involved.Ensures laboratory is maintained in good working order. Has responsibility for operation, training, and maintenance on specific equipment.Actively participates in Trinseo's safety programs and leads relevant safety initiatives as required.Technical Service (20%)Provide technical support to NA customers by responding to customer inquiries on products and literature in a timely and professional manner.Provide technical support at customer trials, which includes setting up equipment, conducting trials, and troubleshooting polymer processing issues.Assist in customer training on Altuglas PMMA technology and market communication efforts.
