PURPOSE OF POSITION This position requires demonstrated competency and increasing independence, knowledge, and ability in performing routine and special assignments in the Maintenance Department. Maintains the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma, completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping preferred. Three to five years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Knowledge of grounds specified computerized maintenance management systems as applied to scheduling, reporting, inventory control, and procurement. Knowledge of standard and job-specific methods, materials, terminology and safe work practices of maintenance, construction, and maintenance equipment and tools. Physical stamina and strength to operate a variety of tools and equipment, performs physical tasks for long periods of time, and ability to lift light and heavy loads (20-90 lbs.); physical flexibility to move objects and operate equipment's; demonstrate ability to safely operate and drive vehicles and equipment. Ability to listen, understand, retain, follow, apply verbal and written instructions or directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; respond courteously to public inquiries; learn and retain specific and general information concerning equipment, functions, and projects; be available for standby and emergency response coverage (before and after regular work hours; weekends, and holidays); or weekend rotation. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in the resolution of difficult and/or stressful scheduling issues. Indian preference: Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimum requirements of the position. The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position. CLASSIFICATION This is a Non-classified, Non-exempt support position. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT This position is hourly and based on 260 contract days. Note: Notwithstanding the above, this position is subject to possible furlough, or reduction in force under NPS, Inc. Personnel Policies, due to unforeseen reductions in program funding that requires such general program changes. SUPERVISOR Facility Manager (Maintenance & Operations) RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Supports and efficiently carries out responsibilities in accordance with Navajo Preparatory School, Inc. (NPS) policies and procedures. Represents NPS in a manner reflecting professionalism and which enhances community understanding of the program. Maintains maintenance equipment, maintains irrigation systems, assists with construction and demolition of school facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems as part of campus improvement projects. Performs minor plumbing or building repair duties. Operates small trucks, dump trucks, may be required to operate heavy equipment; utilizes a wide variety of construction tools and mechanical equipment. Required to utilize school dude (NPS Building management Work order System) to maintain records or perform various duties. Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment's, and vehicles on a daily basis. Considerable time spent working outdoors in occasional extreme heat and cold Takes a leadership role in the development of the maintenance program and determines work priorities. Maintains records of time, materials, and parts required in completing work assignments, and conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair. Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by Facility Manager. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. Completes required training such as Asbestos Awareness, HVAC training, and other required BIE trainings.
