PURPOSE OF POSITION Covenant House Missouri (CHMO) welcomes youth who are runaway, trafficked, at-risk, or experiencing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect and a place to call home. Beyond shelter and basic needs, we deliver transformative solutions to help young people ages 16 to 24 build productive, independent and sustainable lives. The Food Service Associate (FSA) / Cook is responsible for assisting the Food Service Coordinator for coordinating food preparation, cooking, and serving meals at CHMO. The FSA shall assist the FSC to ensure all meals and snacks are prepared and served in a manner that reflects the mission, philosophy and policies of Covenant House. Hourly Pay: $15.60 - $17.68 **NEW INCREASED WAGES **Full-time /Part-time openings. SUMMARY OF DUTIES (Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following) Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures Assist with preparation of food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures Plans food production for the following day by directing the preparation of required food items Plans and directs an acceptable placement of steam table pans on the cafeteria line prior to the start time Assist with assessing the appropriate quantity of food to order, prepare and serve according to projected meal count Secures food and supplies according to established guidelines and requirements Receives and verifies all deliveries and refuses unsatisfactory products or services Assist with invoices for payment in a timely manner according to established procedures Secures substitutes for food service workers and him/herself in the event this is necessary Ensures the proper storage of food and supplies Responsible for maintaining all kitchen cleaning functions Reports any personal injuries and/or accidents to your supervisor and HR Reports equipment failure according to established procedures Monitors food service functions to insure that food is served in a safe and sanitary environment Accurately completes and submits all required daily, weekly and monthly food service reports Attends in-service training to improve skills and knowledge of job expertise Promotes nutrition awareness Communicates effectively with supervisor Assist with planning youth and staff luncheon and catering functions when requested; Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Coordinator and Sr. Manager of Facilities & Food Service SUPERVISORY DUTIES None WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Regular internal contact with CHMO staff and volunteers, outside contact with vendors and suppliers, and regular contact with outside agencies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Education & Experience 2 years' experience in food service Preferred experience includes at least one year of experience working in a residential cafeteria Current Serv Safe Food handling certification or within 30 days of employment Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of Health Department food handling and operation regulations. The ability to follow policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to food service operation. Fundamental knowledge in mental health, trauma, substance abuse, homelessness, etc. Proficient in Microsoft Office, assessment tools, database systems, and Windows environment. Crisis Intervention training and knowledge of Residential Program models essential.
