Laboratory Technician Job Title: Laboratory Technician Department: Laboratory Reports to: Laboratory Director FLSA Status: Regular- Exempt Salary: Negotiable Location: Rochester, New York ROLE SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technician collects, maintains and distributes all documents and results necessary to ensure continued production conforms to customer and regulatory requirements; develops and maintains a comprehensive filing system and computer database for all documents to be retained in the laboratory results center; manages the operation of the Laboratory submissions and results center to ensure that all users have the latest revision of appropriate laboratory results in a timely manner. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collect and maintain files of the latest laboratory submissions and results necessary. Manage all submissions to the 3rd party contract laboratory. Review, analyze and approve all results from the 3rd party contract laboratory. Constant communication with the 3rd party laboratory to ensure there is no delay in receiving in of submissions and receiving back results. Timely review and approval of all laboratory results. Timely distribution of latest results from the 3rd party contract laboratory to ensure timely production of all approved product. Maintain a computer database of all filed documentation that ensures fast retrieval of documents. Perform clerical typing duties to generate documents as necessary. Working with other departments to be aware of all company needs and requirements, and communicate these needs to 3rd party contract laboratory. Assist laboratory with any other data entry needs as required. Keep abreast of upcoming changes in regulations, and revising current testing requirements to reflect the changes. Responding to and retrieving documents as needed Scan and file hardcopy documents, as well as upload documents into electronic documentation system Verify that product labels match the 3rd party results. Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral). Ability to professionally interface with the 3rd party laboratories and other departments. All other duties as assigned SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent attention to detail Quick learner and team player Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills Strong time management skills Attend inventory system training sessions as needed Excellent Microsoft office and computer skills ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in science (biology, microbiology, or chemistry) or related field 1-3 years of laboratory experience or related experience required Must be 21 years of age or older Must successful complete a comprehensive background screening PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance Must be able to work seated/standing as appropriate at workstations for extended periods of time, maintain body equilibrium while climbing ladders, stairways, stopping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, and use hands/fingers to hold, grasp, turn, pick, pinch frequently/constantly to complete tasks Must be able to handle organic matter daily, able to wear PPE as appropriate (eye, face, hand, arm, head, foot, body, fall protection), and able to be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions while wearing PPE (95 degrees or greater) Must have visual acuity with/without job aids to perform activities such as reading, viewing a computer terminal, visual inspection involving small parts/details. Clarity of vision at 20 ft or more in day and night/dark conditions Must be able to speak and communicate verbally at conversation levels with co-workers, vendors, etc. (Moderate noise) WORK SCHEDULE: 40+ hours weekly with flexible hours depending on department needs.
