SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Dental Director, the Associate Dental Director manages the overall dental clinic operations, inclusive of employee relations, administration and risk management, and workflow processes for all sites and the dental mobile unit. The Associate Dental Director will directly supervise Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Dental Clinic Manager with an indirect line of supervision to dental support staff. The Associate Dental Director is charged with promoting a pleasant and healthy dental care experience to a diverse and underserved population within the CareSouth and to external partnering agencies and institutions. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge and understanding of Employee Handbook. Carry out the meaning of the CSMD Mission and Vision statements. Practice a culture of safety to reduce or prevent risk of injury, claims, loss or liability by utilizing the Risk Management and Infection Control Plan. Perform responsibilities with a high-quality standard to yield improved compliance, quality, and patient outcome measures by adhering to the Quality Improvement Plan. Be present and ready for work as scheduled. Attend in-service trainings, departmental meetings, and community events. Work cohesively with team members. Travel to other sites to monitor dental operations and engage with satellite staff. Must be available for emergency calls. Assist Dental Director with special internal and external projects and other administrative requests. LEADERSHIP, ADMINISTRATION AND RISK MANAGEMENT: Participates in the implementation of the strategic goals and plays a vital role in achieving these goals at departmental and clinical levels. Supports Dental Clinic Manager in training and orienting of dental clinic support staff and externs. Directly trains and orients dental providers (dentists and hygienists) and facilitates routine provider centered trainings. Completes necessary competency check-offs. Ensure staff submit all credentials timely to HR. Facilitate advanced training in dental practice management software to afford high quality services. Conducts peer chart audits on dental providers (dentists and hygienists). Educates all staff on policies and procedures. Leads the Dental Clinic Manager in the recruitment of dental support staff and directly, in coordination with Dental Director, recruits dental providers. Reviews and approves timecards, time off requests and reimbursements for all dental staff (providers and support staff). Communicates and emphasizes the importance of safety in the dental clinic workspace. Continually inform and promote goals and status towards productivity, quality, compliance, and safety/risk management goals. Working knowledge of accrediting body requirements; such as HRSA, JACHO, and the Ryan White Program. Assists with incident and accident reporting. Reviews budget tracking for all clinics in coordination with Chief Financial Officer and Dental Clinic Manager. Create monthly report to Dental Director with Dental Clinic Manager to include referral tracking, no-shows, and overdue promissory notes. Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions for the purpose of mutually beneficial collaboration. Attends senior management and Quality Improvement meetings and board meetings in proxy of Dental Director. Participates in policy development and amendments and Policy and Forms Committee meetings, as needed. OPERATIONS: Oversee logistical flow of patient care services. Coordinate changes in dental provider's schedules with Dental Clinic Manager while communicating with Dental Director. Evaluates and manages provider and support staff's schedules to meet operational goals such as quality dental care, patient access and productivity. Participates in the resolution of patient grievances. Collaborates with Compliance Officer, Ryan White Program Manager, Director of Ryan White Clinical Services, Billing Manager, Health and Information Technology Manager and Director of Quality and utilizes operational and clinical audit results to lead the team in initiatives of clinical systems improvements, health information technology innovations, and new methods of care delivery. Serves as liaison between the Ryan White Department and the Dental Department by monitoring the level of participation and optimizing scope of covered services provided to program participants. Trains staff on and implements grant - based operational requirements, as needed. Ensures and supports, as needed, the Dental Clinic Manger with equipment maintenance schedules and repairs. Oversee inventory management and purchasing. Monitor quality of phone calls received through utilization of phone system playback feature. Liaise between providers and Billing Manager/Specialists to manage insurance submittals, claim denials and requests for provider narratives. Create and manage internal marketing program within CareSouth's interdisciplinary care teams. Assist with the development of marketing material. Track and report on community events scheduled and attended and the services rendered and follow up appointments made. Meets regularly with Dental Clinic Manager to ensure smooth clinic flow operation regarding schedules, events, equipment, marketing, policy management, billing, reporting, etc. EMPLOYEE RELATIONS: Exercises great effort to create and nurture a positive work environment for staff and promote a culture of education, safety, high quality service and improvement. Conducts performance evaluations on dental providers and Dental Clinic Manager. Motivate and build rapport with team members. Engage with staff to ensure staff feel part of the team. Address any employee performance and attendance issues effectively and timely with all staff members. Ensure proper documentation for issues. Highlight staff's successes publicly. Correct and coach in private with professional decorum. Serves as the clinic champion to relieve tension, promote comradery, and prevent burnout. CLINICAL: Provide and administer preventive dental diagnoses and treatment care for CareSouth patients. Prescribe and dispense medication per CareSouth policies and procedures and as applicable by law and sound dental practices. Chart accurately and timely in each patient record. Make referrals to other health/dental providers and follow up referrals according to Center policies and procedures. Educates patients regarding the correlation of oral health and overall health and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention. Maintains and updates skills and knowledge to appropriate professional levels with continuing education courses and education materials. Responsible for personal and professional compliance with applicable federal, state, local laws and clinic regulations and protocols. Demonstrates full knowledge of infection prevention and exposure control. Performs oral screenings to fill gaps in scheduling such as no shows. Manages difficult patient, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited Dental School. LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Minimum of three years' experience in a community health center setting preferred. Current CPR Unencumbered LA dental license, CDS and DEA JOB KNOWLEDGE: Board Certified/Eligible in a primary care dental specialty. Must have a current State of Louisiana Dental License. Must possess supervisory experience.
