Position Title: Crew Member Department: Green Department Reports To: 2nd Assistant Superintendent Summary Columbia Country Club was founded in 1898, it is a private member owned club which is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The Club's 1,600 family members enjoy golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, fitness and aquatic facilities, bowling, ice rink and paddle tennis courts. The crew member reports to the 2nd Assistant Superintendent and is under the direction of both the 1st Assistant Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendent. The individual in this position will be held responsible for agronomic maintenance and related duties necessary in maintaining a golf course to very high standards of playability. This position will require manual labor involved in golf course maintenance and construction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities General mowing of turf surfaces, including greens, tees, fairways and rough. Operates large and small equipment, including tractors, skid-steers, and golf carts. Participates in water management of all turf surfaces. Chemical applications to turf surfaces. Participates in daily course set up. Position Qualifications and Functional Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Furthermore, he/she should possess the following personal and professional characteristics: Ability to read and interpret written documents such as safety rules and operating instructions. Pronounced "people skills" in dealings with staff and members. Able to understand and take direction from his/her superiors and execute the task to the best of his / her ability. Strong aptitude in multitasking. Able to meet the physical demands and responsibilities of the position. He/she will, while regularly performing the essential functions of the job, be standing, sitting and lifting/moving items or objects over 50 pounds and sometimes lift/move items up to 75 pounds. Preference for candidates proficient in equipment operation including tractors, skid steers, mowers, line trimmers, edging equipment and chainsaws. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Strong communication and organizational skills Proactively solves problems, develops and proposes solutions to problems that occur, anticipates the needs of staff and members, and can react quickly.
