Summary : Under the guidance & direct supervision of the Prevention Education Services Coordinator, the Prevention Education Specialist will be responsible for providing workshops, evidence base programming, and outreach. The Prevention Education Specialist will work with youth and families that have one or more of the following characteristics: at-risk of academic failure, due to poor school attendance, low socio-economic status, engagement in risky behavior, such as substance use and unprotected sexual intercourse, teenage pregnancy, homelessness, exposure to neighborhood violence, and/or have language barriers. Must maintain a secure environment, conducive to learning and in compliance with program performance objectives that are always met. Note: This is a 12-month position that requires availability during the early evening hours and/or weekends for special events and projects. Deliver Familias Unidas curriculum to Latino/Hispanic youth, adolescents, and families to fidelity. Conduct home visits, virtual and in person, following the agency's guidelines Facilitate workshops and training on life skills, chemical dependency, gambling, and sexual education. Actively recruit and retain program participants. Provide educational material and interactive activities in different venues: community events, fairs, etc. Prepares all required program reports in a timely fashion and maintains accurate program files. Represent Ibero on community committees, coalitions, and task forces as assigned. Initiate and build professional relationships with community partners via field visitation (Houses of worship, temporary housing with children, community-based organizations, tenant associations, drug treatment, recovery centers, law enforcement, public housing, and schools of higher education) Assures compliance with the agency's rules and regulations and performance standards. Attends formal and informal meetings in/outside the agency. Ensuring safe custody and optimum use of equipment used during lessons. Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. Maintain accurate records and required programmatic outcome data in NYS OASAS WITNYS including EBP pre/post, knowledge gained, and other specific measures. Provide evidence-based curriculum, and single-session workshops, to youth and community. Authority: The employee exercises considerable initiative and makes decisions regarding assignments of tasks and monitoring activities. Must use sound judgment in reaching those decisions and in the day-to-day tasks with the students. The individual must be resourceful and able to display initiative and understanding of the agency's policies and procedures. Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, human services, or social work and 2 years' experience in human services or a combination of education and experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience working in a community setting including an understanding of urban culture. Ability to work with a culturally diverse special population Demonstrated knowledge of youth development, including risk and protective factors, harm reduction, and conflict resolution Ability to speak positively and respectfully to the youth and their families. Valid NYS driver's license and access to own transportation Must have clearance through NYS Central Registry and a good police record. A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be accepted by the President and CEO Physical Demands: The position does require occasional standing, squatting, and lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs.
