Position: Journeyman Lineman FLSA Designation: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position Summary Journeyman Linemen perform all construction and maintenance on all overhead and undergroundsystems and equipment. They possess a thorough understanding of all construction specifications andsafety rules and procedures. Essential Job Functions Operating a digger derrick and bucket truck for work to be performed on electric lines. Operating variety of other equipment including but not limited to mini-excavators, forklifts, tractors, pole trailers, wire pullers, winches, wire tensioners, backyard machines, hydraulic pole jacks,trenchers, chain saws, and power tools. Performing line construction and power restoration with the use of line tools and equipment. Understanding all overhead and underground construction specifications. Performing all primary line construction and maintenance on overhead and underground infrastructure. Installing, maintaining, and removing multi-phase overhead and underground transformers. Possessing a thorough understanding of and installing, maintaining, removing, and troubleshooting reclosers, voltage regulators, and capacitors. Understanding overcurrent protection, coordination, fault current, and fusing. Possessing knowledge of common and uncommon troubleshooting problems and solution techniques for equipment and outages. Understanding multi-phase and primary metering, including associated calculations. Performing traffic control when necessary. Operating radio systems to communicate with System Operations. Performing DOT pre-trip inspections. Using technology for work processes. Navigating and understanding work area. Member relations - Apprentice D Linemen through Journeyman Linemen are the face of the co-op. Being available 24/7/365 for on-call to address storm and after-hour duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Being attentive to safety. Watching peers' backs, professional training on safety, assisting in deliverance of tailboards, performing pole top and bucket rescues, strong and thorough understanding of TCEC safety rules and procedures, etc. Position Requirements Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required Four to seven years' experience Ability to perform all primary line construction and maintenance on overhead and underground infrastructure. Ability to install, maintain, remove, and troubleshoot multi-phase overhead and underground transformers. Thorough knowledge of and ability to install, maintain, remove, and troubleshoot reclosers, voltage regulators, and capacitors. Valid Class A CDL and DOT medical card, pole top, bucket truck, and vault rescues, forklift certification, CPR and AED training, and Smith Driving training. Successful completion of Tri-County's Journeyman Lineman test (verbal/written and field demonstrations). Applying decision-making skills and good judgement to make decisions within established policies and procedures. Using tools and test equipment to perform advanced troubleshooting. Calculating transformer full load current (amps) and fault current (amps). Calculating multipliers for primary metering. Vocational Skills - Operating and maintaining bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other equipment including but not limited to mini-excavators, forklifts, tractors, pole trailers, wire pullers, winches, wire tensioners, backyard machines, hydraulic pole jacks, trenchers, chain saws, and power tools. Climbing poles to perform essential job functions. Operating and maintaining tools used in line construction, maintenance, and power restoration. Computer Skills - Using and understanding work process software on an iPad to navigate our map and fill out forms. Using an iPad or computer to watch training videos, check email, and complete timesheets, etc. Relationships Reports to Line Superintendent/Assistant Line Superintendent Physical Demands (Scale: Rarely = Less than 5%, Occasionally = 5% - 25%, Frequently = More than 25%) Heavy lifting or moving of materials: Frequently - Loading and unloading material on to trucks. Up to 80 pounds or less Operates Equipment: Frequently - Bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other equipment including but not limited to mini-excavators, forklifts, tractors, pole trailers, wire pullers, winches, wire tensioners, backyard machines, hydraulic pole jacks, trenchers, chain saws, and power tools. Operates Office Machines: Frequently - iPad, computer, printer/scanner Standing: Frequently Walking: Frequently Awkward Position (stooping, bending etc.): Frequently Climbing: Frequently Eye-hand Coordination: Frequently Location: Indoor 5% of time, Outdoor 95% of time Work Conditions: Nights, weekends, holidays, 24-7-365, inclement weather (storms, snow, extreme heat and/or cold), traveling for schools/training.
