Part Time and Contingent Available SUMMARY: The Recovery Coach is an at-will position that reports to the Sober Support Unit Manager. This position will work as a team member in a social detox setting that serves all members in the community through support, coaching, and solution planning. This position will provide and maintain a supportive, hopeful, empathic, and engaging environment for individuals seeking help with detoxification. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Recovery Coach will provide recovery coaching to people that results in engaging them in ongoing supportive services in and communicating the message of hope and the possibility of recovery and healing. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Use Recovery Coaching and the Recovery Pathways to maximize the opportunity to create recovery partnerships and a recovery environment Engage and motivate people served in the recovery process Support and monitor people served to support a comfortable and productive experience Link people served to appropriate aftercare services and community resources Utilize recovery principles while comforting people in crisis: Hope, Choice, Empowerment, Recovery environment, Meaning and Purpose Provide strength-based trauma informed crisis intervention, crisis planning, and safety planning as an alternative to inpatient hospital Work closely with the Oakland Assessment & Crisis Intervention Services (OACIS) team Arrange or provide transportation to a safe place Complete and sign documentation before end of shift Assist people with gaining coping skills and recovery tools Provide accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health and/or paper record Promote a team environment Focus on the strengths and needs of the person/families served Work in a recovery oriented and supportive environment framework Complete Service Activity Logs in accordance with departmental standards Adhere to established Quality Improvement Indicators Participate in training and orientation of new staff and interns All electronic or hard copy documents are signed prior to end of shift Comply with attendance and punctuality policies, as well as all other Common Ground policies and procedures RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS: Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere Assist with fulfilling basic needs such as food, clothing, arrange for shelter, bathing, etc., as needed Provide back up to the Crisis Resource & Helpline during times of high need Contribute to keeping the environment clean and comfortable for people served as well as co-workers Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies Assist with cleaning and preparing rooms and common areas Perform other job-related duties as assigned SUPERVISION: None REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF : Mental health recovery Current behavioral management and de-escalation techniques Basic intervention skills R ecovery orientation and trauma-informed care SKILL TO: Excellent customer service skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Type, enter data, file, and operate office equipment efficiently Interact well with departmental staff, individuals being served and vendors Demonstrate proficiency in relevant software and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) ABILITY TO: Relate to a diverse population which includes a variety of age, economic and educational backgrounds Work independently and apply critical thinking and decision - making skills Work in a multi-disciplinary environment and manage evolving needs Understand and follow verbal and written instructions Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Consistently exercise superior customer service skills with both team members and individuals being served Apply the dynamics of the crisis intervention model and engage in problem solving process Apply trauma informed principles and values with knowledge, decisions, and treatment of all people served Expertise with all populations or engages supervisor and/or co-workers to utilize their expertise with a specific population Demonstrated ability to work positively with co-workers and consumers Handle volatile situations in a safe, calm, and caring manner REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Be eligible to complete the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) certification upon hire Successfully complete the CCAR certification within one year of hire High school diploma or equivalent Valid Michigan driver's license and clean driving record Minimum 1-year experience working with people with substance abuse disorders, disabilities, preferred ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Environmental Working Requirements: Work is done in both an office environment with exposure to computer screens, as well as in the homes of the individuals being served; Assignments may require work to be done on an individual basis or in teams with members at various staffing levels. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may subject staff to behavioral and medical events that could be physically hazardous. Other Requirements: Local travel required and use of personal vehicle during work hours. Must be willing to transport persons served using personal or agency vehicle. The agency may in its sole discretion fill this position on a full-time, part-time, or contingent basis with the individual best fit to perform the essential functions of the job.
