GENERAL SUMMARY: Roland Park Country School believes that an integrated approach to the STEAM fields prepares our Lower and Middle School girls to be innovators, designers, engineers, and leaders. We are seeking a full-time K-8 STEAM Director who is enthusiastic in supporting and implementing the creative use of technology and an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. This individual will report directly to the Middle School Head and also perform under the general direction of the Lower School Head. Additionally, this position works closely with The Holliday Heine STEM Institute Director. This role will include both administrative and teaching responsibilities. The K-8 STEAM Director will be responsible for teaching classes, supporting faculty and students in inquiry and project-based learning, integrating STEAM initiatives throughout the curriculum, and making use of our innovation labs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches classes in grades 6-8 with an emphasis on computer science and design thinking. Sets the vision for the K-8 STEAM program by collaborating with Lower School Head and Middle School Head and works with the Lower School STEAM Teacher to implement the curriculum. Mentors, supports, and guides the Lower School STEAM teacher. Engages with students on projects and tools in the Innovation Lab. Serves as an academic advisor, supports the efforts of an advisory team, and/or advises student extracurricular activities. Creates a positive classroom environment of inclusion and respect. Welcomes and serves as the representative for the K-8 STEAM program with prospective families and other visitors to the school. Performs other reasonable duties as assigned from time to time by the Middle School Head or the Head of School. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES : Outstanding interpersonal communication skills with ability to present complicated concepts to diverse audiences. Growth mindset, flexibility, and openness to collaboration and feedback. Passion for STEAM/STEM education and ability to maintain/display enthusiasm for the STEAM/STEM program. A commitment to culturally competent teaching with ability to make equitable decisions with sound emotional judgment. Familiarity with the challenges that people of color and women face in STEM. A strong desire to help educate courageous scholars. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all school policies and professional expectations. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, graduate degree preferred. Three or more years of demonstrated excellence in teaching or curriculum design. Computer science/coding experience; robotics experience desired. Familiarity with inquiry-based learning and modeling instructional pedagogies.
