Hydraulic Modeling Engineer Department: Engineering Reports To: Director of Engineering FLSA Status: Exempt JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this classification is to use and maintain the hydraulic model for Greenville Water, to coordinate the design of new construction and water main replacement projects, communication with engineers and developers about how to get water to their projects, and working with customers to remedy water problems. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs a variety of engineering design calculations including, but not limited to, the design of water main layouts, and hydraulic analysis calculations. Performs accurate calculations of flows and pressures in water mains. Under limited supervision, runs the program, interprets results and maintains the hydraulic model for Greenville Water Reviews and prepares various reports and drawings associated with water modeling. Analyzes and projects water demands for various user classes. Works independently to collate model information from GIS, CAD drawings, customer database and historical documents. Updates model as required. Able to perform field verification studies. Performs other related duties as required. Performs modeling using WaterGEMS. Assists in the planning and reviewing of work; maintains standards; and offers training, advice and assistance as needed. Interprets and applies rules and regulations with engineers, developers, contractors, staff, customers, and the general public. Represents Greenville Water (GW) in various meetings. Coordinates and interacts with engineers, architects, developers and contractors regarding water service for residential, commercial and industrial development. Reviews site plans and prepares water main layouts for new development. Communicates project status and concerns to supervisor. Attends workshops, seminars and/or classes to maintain certification and to keep abreast of new design and application techniques and new governmental regulations and programs which affect the utilities served. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including engineering designs and drawings, project status reports, various technical reports, memos, correspondence, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department supervisors and employees, subordinates, customers, engineers, architects, developers, contractors, consultants, sales representatives, City/County personnel, attorneys, property/business owners, and the general public. Prepares drawings using AutoCAD. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible utilities engineering work and four (4) years of experience in hydraulic modeling , is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license, and registration as an Engineer in Training in South Carolina. Must obtain and maintain a B level Distribution License. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Greenville Water is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
