Position Summary: The RN Supervisor is responsible for the supervisor of surgery center staff to ensure that the organizations Mission and Vision objectives are carried out through exceptional patient care and customer service. Clearly communicates performance expectations through ongoing coaching, staff development and accountability. Collaboratively establish and implement appropriate quality measures in an effort to achieve desired clinical outcomes. Develop, maintain, and enforce policies and procedures in compliance with healthcare (AAAHC/CMS) and practice standards. Effectively coordinates with the surgery center manager to complete department and practice needs. In addition, this position assumes responsibility for planning and conducting new hire department orientation and staff education for all sites. Travel to all locations is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Accountable for supervising the daily activities of direct reports. Directly supervises clinical staff and when necessary, holds critical performance related conversations with staff, mentoring for success. Interacts routinely with providers and staff to foster timely communication and process improvement. Performs, records and analyzes monthly quality audits including AIDET observation / validation, staff rounding, patient rounding, thank you notes. Proactively seeks provider feedback on clinical staff performance and customer service. Participates and assists as needed, for all pertinent compliance purposes and requirements including continuous quality improvement and other projects. Competent in AAAHC/CMS standards Working knowledge of all BJOSC ASC sites. Attend meetings, including but limited to, MAC, Orthopedic Surgeons, PM&R, etc. Assists in AAAHC surveys. Develops and assists in Quality Improvement studies, including collecting and correlating data, reviewing, sharing with staff and Providers. Assists researching and developing policies to remain Best Practice. Develops staff education and staff meeting agendas, i.e. Rad Techs, Registration, Pre-Post/Pain and OR meetings. Accountable for patient and staff safety, risk mitigation, and other safety related activities. Works collaboratively with the Surgery Center Manager for optimal daily staffing plans meeting customer service needs and budget goals. Schedules, plans, and leads weekly informational & motivational huddles as needed. Completes Performance Reviews and ensures staff competencies are met annually including 30, 60 and 90 day reviews. Reviews and approves timecards, overtime requests and PTO requests working closely with clinical nurse managers. Assist with ensuring all clinical staff maintains up to date required immunizations, ACLS, PALS, CPR, License, and other clinic requirements. Promotes safe patient care by maintaining continuity and ensuring consistency and standardization at all sites. Accomplish timely service recovery. Participates in monthly A-Team Meetings. Authorizes ordering of supplies to ensure adequate quality and supply levels within budget. Assist with hiring process for direct reports and as support to Surgery Center Manager. Functions as a staff RN as required during peak volume times or during staff shortages in pain, pre-post and the operating room in all locations. Active participant in special surgery center related projects. Participates in personal professional development. Available to staff to serve as a resource and provides "just in time" education and/or assists with skills. Develops staff to be able to deliver quality care through orientation, skill, competency development and testing. Provides training for orientation, initial, ongoing and yearly competency assessments and in-services. Responsible for orientee guidance and evaluation throughout the training period. This may be accomplished through a preceptor. Collaborate with Surgery Center Manager for educational in-services for Staff. Assists Surgery Center Manager with completion of Department Orientation Checklist within 30 days of hire. Assists in selection and purchase of equipment. Assists in training staff on the appropriate use of equipment, supplies and resources in the delivery of patient care. Assists manager in development of annual budgets Assures compliance of departmental staff with policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Direct Supervisor over: Leads and others as position grows Education/Experience/Qualifications : Minimum of three years RN experience in a surgery setting. RN license. Valid WI Driver's License Ability to complete and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated competency with Quality Improvement measures/outcomes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff. Ability to mentor staff to higher performance standards. Ability to respond promptly in stressful situations with poise and tact. Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism. CPR certified ACLS certified PALS certified Must demonstrate a high level of organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead through influence to promote positive communication with hospital, community, providers, and staff members. Strong technology skills and experience. Within 1 year of hire successfully complete Certified Ambulatory Infection Preventionist (CAIP) Within 2 years of hire successfully complete Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) Preferred: Three years of supervisory experience as a RN in a surgery center setting. Minimum three years healthcare management experience working with staff development, education, training, schedules, coaching, completing performance reviews and corrective action. BSN and/or graduate of an accredited healthcare education program. Physical guidelines include ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per day; bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchers; assist patients in and out of wheelchairs; push wheelchairs; assist with the moving of patients on and off the operating room table. Must be flexible in job duties and work schedule. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
