Director of Libraries The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of All-School Director of Libraries to lead our libraries. This is a full-time, exempt position within the Upper Campus reporting to the Head of Upper School beginning August 15, 2023. The ideal candidate will: Major Responsibilities: Maintains a current awareness of young adult literature and services, as well as professional trends, methods, and ethics Assists teachers and Teaching Resource Center with planning classes and research projects and assists students and teachers with critical reading, research & evaluation skills, and media literacy Develops and implements library policies and procedures for students and staff in conjunction with the administration Supervises and supports Shipley's Lower School library and librarian Designs, develops, and implements programs that encourage reading for enjoyment and for information General Responsibilities : Maintain records: circulation, usage, budget, periodicals, and collection by purchasing, weeding, and performing inventory, maintain library webpage Coordinate state book ordering Catalog, process, and review both new and existing materials and update and maintain the library's holdings, maintain physical space Work with Alumni Office to support school activities & communicate with the Development Office regarding archival materials Qualifications The successful candidate must: Display a love of learning, books, and reading Master's degree in Library Science or in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent experience Be facile with technology in all of its forms Be interested in attending professional conferences and workshops Have knowledge and training in cultural competency The ideal candidate will possess the following: Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor Excellent communication skills A willingness to participating in co-curricular activities Shipley and Its Commitment to Equity The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling approximately 800 students in grades Pre-K through 12.
