CODE COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR Pay Grade: 63 Pay Range: $20.72 to $29.01 per hour plus benefits New employees start at beginning level of pay range FSLA Status: Non-exempt (Eligible for overtime) Deadline to Apply: 4/22/19 5:00PM Qualifications: High school diploma and or experience equivalent to three (3) years experience in plan review, code compliance, municipal experience, building or fire inspection, law enforcement, construction trade or closely related field. Certification at Level I Code Enforcement Officer through the Code Enforcement League of Arizona, or ability to obtain within one (1) year. C ertification from the International Code Council as a Fire Inspector I, or ability to obtain within one (1) year. Any equivalent combination of education, work experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position will be considered. Must be able to work occasional weekends and possess valid Arizona driver's license. Candidate of choice must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. Responsibilities: Responds to and investigates complaints alleging violation of municipal code pertaining to land use regulations, garage sales, signs, investigates complaints of weeded lots, utility easements, abandoned/junk vehicles, and abandoned buildings; documents investigation with written reports, logs and video/photographic records. Schedules timely business license inspections for compliance with the International Fire Code, local fire code amendments, and adopted NFPA standards as pertains to business license premises safety inspections; ensures conformance with all codes, adopted standards and regulations. Coordinates with other City units including the Building Safety Division of Community Development and/or the Fire Department in conjunction with business license requirements as adopted by the City Council. Issues notices of violation; testifies in court; mediates and resolves conflicts/disputes between neighbors, businesses and residents; conducts field checks and monitors businesses and properties relative to a variety of mitigation measures imposed as part of the discretionary land/use process; prepares correspondence and reports, abatement notices and requests for information; maintains thorough records and documentation. C oordinate and work with public groups and organizations to conduct public education programs and neighborhood clean-ups; performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics: Knowledge of Federal, State, and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes, and ordinances related to zoning, building codes and compliance. Knowledge of International Fire Code, local fire code amendments, and related NFPA standards; ability to read and interpret fire and life safety plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance with local and international fire safety codes, Knowledge of the City of Prescott's governmental organization, policies and procedures. Knowledge of construction methods and materials. Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of a variety of computer software, including word processing, database, spreadsheet and GIS applications. Skill in safely inspecting and enforcing building code, zoning regulations, fire codes, and ordinances. Skill in performing fire prevention inspections for a variety of buildings and business types. Skill in customer service/public relations techniques while performing inspections and responding to inquiries. Skill in mediating/resolving disputes. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with State, Federal, and other local officials, elected officials and City residents. Skill in written communications for administrative and technical purposes. Skill in oral communication in one-on-one and group situations. Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints. Physical and Visual Ability: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicles as needed. Hearing and Speaking Ability: Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person, over the radio and the telephone.
