Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Activity Director is responsible forplanning and directing a program of diversified activities for residents of the Facility. Theactivity program must meet the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial needsand well-being of each resident. The goal of the activity program is to provide mentaland physical stimulation as well as to create an invigorating social atmosphere for theresidents. This position requires knowledge of age specific developmental factors specificto adult and geriatric residents. Possesses a good knowledge of the organization and thetechniques of a diversified program of meaningful, appropriate leisure time activities in aresidential health care Facility. Possesses knowledge of the special needs of the aged, illand/or disabled, as it relates to program development.Essential Duties1. Acts appropriately under the direction of the Executive Director and acts as anactive member of the interdisciplinary team.2. Adjusts to changes in assignments to meet resident and family needs.3. Coordinates and encourages an active Volunteer Program. Verifies thatVolunteers are knowledgeable of Facility policies and procedures, as well as, stateand federal regulations. Assists in training, teaching and directing of volunteersand students.4. Directs other activity personnel in implementing activity programs and services atthe Facility.5. Provides Department Heads with a schedule of planned activity programs andposts calendars in conspicuous locations that are easily accessible and legible tothe residents and staff.6. Provides the Executive Director with a monthly statistical report of the number ofplanned activities and participates in in-service programs as appropriate.7. Maintains a system of records including information on residents, progress notes,attendance, discharge summaries, Resident Council meeting minutes, activityassessments and plans for each resident.8. Attends the Care Plan conferences and identifies problems and develops goals andapproaches for inclusion on the resident's individual Care Plan.9. Completes the activity portion of MDS assessments.10. Conducts in-service programs related to activities policies and procedures foractivities staff and Facility staff as appropriate.11. Interviews new residents upon admission to identify their needs and interest invarious activity programs.12. Provides personal services for residents such as writing letters, mailing packagesand transporting them to community events whenever necessary.13. Delegates assignments to activity staff for smooth functioning of activityprograms.14. Decorates Facility with seasonal décor, including holiday decorations.15. Performs various Quality Assurance audits and participates in the monthlyQuality Assurance (QA) meetings..16. Requisitions equipment and supplies as necessary for activity programs. Conductsinventory audits and prepares yearly budget for Activities.17. Performs light housekeeping tasks such as clean-up following parties andprograms whenever necessary.18. Maintains established Activity standards under the direction of the ExecutiveDirector.19. Explores and utilizes available community resources applicable to residentialhealth care Facility programs.20. Demonstrates good knowledge of activities program direction and supervision.21. Instructs and supervises others in the functions and techniques of the Activityprogram.Standard Requirements1. Supports the Mission, Values and Vision of the Facility.2. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:OSHA and safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices,established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/orcorrect unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.4. Adheres to:a. Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operationsdata.b. HIPAA regulationsc. Quality Assurance requirements and compliance with regulatoryrequirements.d. Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environmentfree from sexual harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior.e. Code of Conduct and Compliance Programs when performing jobfunctions5. Supports and participates in common teamwork:a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and completesjob duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriatejudgment.b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotionalsituations.c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residentsregarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.d. Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members andguests.e. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance,uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other workduties as assigned.f. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates apositive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.6. Immediately reports incidents of alleged resident abuse or neglect or allegedviolations of residents' rights to Supervisor or Executive Director.7. Maintains current practice standards or changes by participating in educationalopportunities provided by the Facility and outside resources.Other DutiesPerform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, butwhich may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances. Performsother work duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation/Training: One year experience in a geriatric care in providing or developingrecreational or activity programs is required or two years experience in a geriatric healthcare setting. Education in occupational or recreational therapy may be counted for theexperience.Experience: Previous long-term care and supervisory experience preferred.A.D.A ((Americans with Disabilities Act)(as amended)) REQUIREMENTS: Must beable to bend, stoop, push, pull, and walk and stand for most of the working day. Requiresmanual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as fax, telephone,etc. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Must be free from communicablediseases that pose a "direct threat" to the health or safety of others and which cannot beeliminated by a reasonable accommodation. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30pounds, and be able to carry and transport supplies. Must be able to pass a post-offer, preemploymentphysical health examination as a condition of employment. Must be capableof performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonableaccommodation(s).Skill(s): Must possess proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills;proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; decision-making skills, basiccomputer skills; and be able to operate various medical and/or office equipment. Mustdemonstrate knowledge of safety techniques. Must be able to communicate in English,both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform thetasks required.
