Summary of position: The Finance Department is responsible for company-wide financial reporting, budgeting, cash flows, safeguarding of company assets, and internal controls. The Accounting Assistant will assist and support the Finance Department by providing accurate and timely service of data entry, record keeping, effective communication with staff and third parties, and by performing other duties as assigned. Job responsibilities: Accounts Payable Utilizes an electronic document management system for scanning, storing, and managing invoices. Evaluates the reasonableness of the G/L coding. Especially, evaluate the proper classification between fiscal years and make adjustments for the proper proration between expenses and prepaid costs. Reconciles keyed journal entries with original documents. Evaluates the correct fiscal period of journal entries. Validates the supervisor's approval on the invoice. Review the terms and due dates on the invoices and prioritizes them for timely payment. Assist with processing payables (Checks, EFTs, Wire Transfers) on a weekly basis. Assist with internal controls. Accounts Receivable Assist with daily bank deposit Assist with company based credit card statement input and follow-up. Communicate with staff via email, phone, or face-to-face contact to disseminate information or gather additional details. Assist with filing state registrations and unclaimed property returns Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Experience & Qualifications/Skills: Detail oriented and high level organizational skills Proficient and accurate data entry skills Ability to learn quickly Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong computer aptitude skills (Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, general data entry) Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team A commit to and demonstrated values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism is required.
