Application Deadline: May 5 Publishing Coordinator Location : Washington, DC with hybrid schedule Reports to : Director of Strategic Communications The Stimson Center, a foreign policy think tank, seeks a full-time Publishing Coordinator to join a tight-knight and productive team. The Publishing Coordinator will manage the publishing process, working with policy programs and the Communications team to ensure timely, high-quality, digital-first publishing that meets high standards for excellence and integrity. The Coordinator will also support ongoing work to distribute and promote Stimson research through email and social media. The ideal candidate will be level-headed in a fast-paced workplace, pay careful attention to detail, and have an interest in foreign affairs. Team & Organizational Culture The Communications team is small, close-knit, and fast-paced. We expect our colleagues to move quickly, solve problems, pay attention to details, support each other, and keep many balls in the air at once. Communications is simultaneously an advisor, enabler, service provider, and collaborator with colleagues across a wide range of subject matter expertise and communications experience. Stimson follows a hybrid workplace schedule. Communications staff have flexibility to split the work week between in-office and remote/work from home. Responsibilities Coordinate the publishing process. Move publications through the publishing process, from initial concept through review and production. Work with policy programs to understand their needs, communicate expectations, and meet internal and external deadlines. Ensure compliance with relevant quality assurance and ethics and integrity policies. Coordinate graphic design and printing vendors. Copy edit shorter publications. Post completed publications to the web. Process improvement and archiving. Co-lead an overhaul of Stimson's digital publishing workflows, including identifying design goals and features, building and testing a new system, and launching the finished product. Identify and implement opportunities to improve and streamline the publishing process. Develop and implement a system for long term publication archiving. Monitor website analytics and use them to inform best practices. Promotion and distribution. Work with department colleagues to distribute research products via mass email and promote them on social media in collaboration with policy programs. Create, review, proof, and send mass email. Draft and schedule social media content. Other communications activities as needed. Department staff routinely assist each other and other departments and programs with a variety of day to day functions, such as supporting public events, tracking earned media hits, and updating website content. Qualifications & Qualities A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and/or 1-3 years of relevant work experience or internships. An editor's careful attention to detail. Strong writing skills. Experience in publishing and editing is a plus. Tact, sound judgment, maturity, and discretion. Ability to communicate clearly and collaboratively, take feedback gracefully, and iterate and improve on work. Familiarity with website content management systems like WordPress. Eagerness to learn new things and excitement for challenging problems. Interest in foreign policy, international security, or any of Stimson's programmatic work is a plus.
